It's hot and dry on the Desert this summer. The first nine pictures are of the biggest band that run around Davis Mountain. They came in to a ten foot trough on the run. There were well over a hundred head. It took about twenty minutes until the trough was dry and the fight started to see who was going to lick the bottom. Soon some headed about a mile up the country to a pond that is a better source of water.

When I arrived at this trough there were about twenty head there. Soon after I saw a dust cloud coming from about five miles to the west. It was quite a sight when I bush ambushed them a half mile below the water. They were strung out for a half mile. I couldn't get all of them in the camera at once

It's easy to see what a mistake it was to shut off the water to the Cat Tail Pond and run it into a ten foot cement trough. It took about fifteen minutes for them to drink in dry and fight for a chance to lick the bottom.

I enjoyed the pictures as usual. But I can't imagine being hot and thirsty. So was it the BLM that decided to shut the water off to
the Cat Tail pond? Did they know how many head needed to water in that area? I assume the picture at the bottom was before they
shut the water off.

More than "too bad", it's terrible. Will they wait til more water comes into the cement tank, which isn't nearly big enough.
They already had to come 5 miles to it???? from where they were licking the bottom at the last water hole???

The first band only had to go about a mile to get a second source.
The second band was grazing about five miles away when they decided to come to water. I heard rumors of why
the BLM shut the water of to the Cat Tail Pond, but remember the people who make the decisions are in an office and most likely have never been to the Desert. In both cases, the amount of water in each trough only lasted about fifteen to twenty minutes. It's true that a small amount of water continues into the trough, but with one hundred head of mustangs wanting water, its far from enough.

GRRRR. I know well about not enough water. It's crucial. So they stand around needing a drink and don't get it. Sad situation.
You can bet those calling the shots don't go without water.
