I awakened at 6:00 and had a good breakfast. Dad and I got in some cows from the horse pasture before I had to get ready for school.
On the way to town, we dumped off Ichabod, our duck, in the pond by our turn-off. He can't fly, but he can swim right along.
We tackled a couple new songs in band, but didn't succeed too well. Typing was about "average," and we had a map quiz in Geography. Mr. Card had gone to Chadron today, so we goofed around over the Geometry period. The sophomores went on a bird-watching expedition all around town, finding eight varieties of birds. Clarence Groves showed us through the depot and explained "train talk," which was an interesting sidelight of our trip.
We had hot dogs, macaroni, and peaches for dinner. I blew the noon hour attempting to study. In English, we recited poems (the same one). I raised my grade from a B+ to an A. We retook our test in Drivers Ed. I got an 86% this time. We didn't have phys ed, due to a track meet tomorrow. I studied for tomorrow's map test the remainder of the day.
Mom and Grandma went to Rushville to see Uncle Roland Fairhead. Sandra and Sybil stayed in for a church deal, so I came on home in the pickup.
I drove the four wheeler over east and helped Lloyd feed hay. I put some pellets in the grinder-mixer and then tightened a bolt that had come loose on the new pickup. I saddled Jig and got in the heavies. Dad and I tied up some cows, did chores, and came in for supper. Sybil and I have been squabbling ever since.
