My journal entry for Friday, May 31, 1968

After breakfast, we got ready to go down south. Mom packed us a lunch, and we got together fencing equipment. On the way through town, we picked up Doug. Then we headed for the Leach Place.

We loaded on a bunch of posts the first thing, and then went over to our previous fence site to get the old pickup and tools. Doug and I strung wire while Dad lined Lloyd out on a few posts. We put close to ¾ mile of three-wire up today on the south side of the Myers meadow.

We nooned on a shady sidehill, but had a rough time dodging poison oak and cactus. Everybody took a good nap.

Dad went down to the Fuchser pasture to fix the middle windmill, so the rest of us kept on fencing. I set posts.

About 6:00, I got in the horses and saddled Jig. I put the cattle in the Myers meadow on the south side of the new fence. A steer was out of the west meadow, so I put him back with his "roommates."

We took off for home at around 7:30 and checked the mail department on the way through town. The box was empty, as Mom and the girls had already been to town.

We had supper right away and then went to do chores. The evening was spent making plans for remodeling a little on the house. Any rustic ideas I had along that line didn't go over too well.

It's 11:00 now, so I'd better turn in.
