My journal entry for Saturday, June 8, 1968

I spent the night on a roll-away bed, so it took me awhile to unlimber. Our bunch bid the Fairhead bunch "good morning," and we all took off for Curtis.

Breakfast was furnished at the reunion for 50 cents, but it was a dieter's delight. I, for one, didn't get filled up on the two rolls and orange drink.

Dad hauled John and me downtown for badly needed haircuts. The barber didn't take off very much hair for $1.75.

Back at the get-together, John and I mostly followed our dads around while they met old classmates. It was interesting to watch old acquaintances going around looking for familiar faces, whose names could only be remembered by the name tags.

For dinner, we got in on a real dandy barbeque. Although there was well over 1500 people attending, John and I got good positions in the dinner line-up.

The afternoon went much the same as the morning. There was a program with speeches, and a part of the old Curtis band played.

We left for home after getting some ice cream cones at a drive-in. Back in North Platte, Mom and the girls shopped, and Dad, Nancy Jean, and I took naps. The stores closed before the shoppers got their fill of shopping. We stopped at Young's in Valentine where the girls got new hats, and I purchased a wood carving for Mom's belated birthday present. (These purchases were done on $34 credit from a faulty pair of boots.) We had supper at the Buttercup Café and came home.
