My journal entry for Sunday, June 2, 1968
I'm about four days behind in this darned thing, so hope I can remember the chain of events correctly.
Dad and I got up about 6:00 and did chores. After breakfast, I saddled old Spot to get in a couple bulls. While riding over in the school section west of the house, I ran across an antelope. I started the bulls home after a lot of hard riding. A little ways northwest of the overhead sign, a fawn jumped up from behind a soapweed and took off like a streak of greased pig. I don't know if he and his ma ever got together again or not.
We loaded the bulls and went down to the Leach Place, skipping church in the deal. We put out a couple back rubbers, and then went across the Fuchser pasture to check windmills and the grass situation. We got in the horses and "scotch-hobbled" Sassy. She about tore up the barn while Dad trimmed her tail. We hauled her to Uncle Stan's for his upcoming cattle drive.
Bob Mathis and his family were out for dinner. We are thinking about remodeling our house, and he will be the carpenter. The girls and I gave his two boys and a girl a ride on Spot.
Later in the afternoon, our family all packed into the pickup and went over to Weber's. Dad and I helped Bruce castrate and brand a couple colts, with Dad acting as chief surgeon. The best one strained too hard or something, and broke a hind leg. We got home about midnight.
