My journal entry for Sunday, June 9, 1968
Dad and I piled out and did chores before breakfast. Overshoes were required, as the barn yards are one big lake.
Right after breakfast, Dad and I went down to the Leach Place to check around. The storm of June 6th dumped nothing more than a four inch rain, but last night some hail did damage on the pastures.
Uncle Stan and Ken drove up on us as we were checking, and scared the liver out of us with a mighty blast of their horn. They had been checking down at the Fuchser pasture.
On the way home, the pickup conked out between the river and town. One of Shadbolt's men and another guy, Lloyd Dubry, helped us out. They had a full carload, but made room to haul us to town. Dad and I took the car (which Mom and the girls had taken in to Sunday School) home to change clothes.
Grandma had us, Uncle Stan's, and Bill Arnot's in for dinner. Uncle Stan, Ken, and I went to the JO to check a heavy cow. Then everybody went south to the Leach Place to view storm damages. While there, Grandma got some rhubarb at the Myers Place. It looks like coyotes or skunks have been in the old house.
The party kind of broke up after our return to town. (Ken and I nursed the pickup along on the way.)
Our outfit came on home at 6:00. Dad, the girls, and I did chores. We came in to supper and a miller-infested house.
