My journal entry for Sunday, May 26, 1968
We didn't break any records getting up this morning, and rolled out about 7:00. Dad and I did chores before breakfast—I grained the bulls, and he tied up a couple cows for their calves to suck.
We took the hornweights off some bulls before getting ready for church. Mom and the girls went for Sunday School, and Dad and I went later.
Our outfit went to Uncle Stan's for dinner. We had branding left-overs.
McNares had 4-H this afternoon. I rode out with Uncle Stan, Aunt Joy, Ken, Brad, and John Fairhead. After the meeting there were three demonstrations. Then we judged a class of hogs and had refreshments.
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Wickman had a 40-year anniversary open house. We stopped on the way back from McNares. We kids didn't go in but just wandered around outside.
John and I went over to "Old Uncle Joy's" [John's grandfather] to look at some pastel portraits that he had made recently. He had bad luck yesterday, and lost part of a finger in a lawn mowing accident. He lost about half an inch from his long finger on the left hand (Uncle Joy is left-handed).
Dad and I came on home, after visiting a bit with John Christensen and Dale Cady. We did some cattle checking and then did chores.
Webers came over this evening. We had a little lunch and a good visit.
Nancy Jean [my two-year-old sister] knows two words at this stage of the game—No and Don't. Quite a negative pessimistic attitude. [Sorry, Nancy, but this is what was written.]
