My journal entry for Thursday, November 28, 1968 (THANKSGIVING)

I slept until about 9:00 and then sashayed over to my grandparents' house (Rudolph and Signe Anderson) for breakfast. Uncle Al had to move his cows and calves home about a mile, so Dad and I went along. Dad rode the one horse, and Uncle Al and I went in the pickup with some corn to feed them. We got this job done and then went in for coffee. The day was cool and windy, and the warm-up went over well.

Uncle Al had to haul a load of hay, so Dad and I went in the car to watch him load up. Then we went back to get ready for dinner.

Our bunch and Grandma and Grandpa went to Wilmar for dinner. We ate at a restaurant smorgasbord deal and had some Swedish foods. On the way back to Benson, Dad and Grandpa got into the usual annual political argument, with Dad representing the Republicans and Grandpa the Democrats.

We stopped in at Pihl's when we got back to town. Mom's "girl-friends," Christine and Millie, were there along with their families. There were three boys about my age, so we goofed off and drove around downtown. Mr. Pihl gave us a real ornate letter opener that he had carved. Both a chain link and a small ball are carved into the wood so that they move.

After a "left-over" lunch, we drove on up to Uncle Bruce's place, near Starbuck. There we listened to records and talked for a few hours. Another lunch there filled my belly to the brim, if you will excuse the wording.

We went back to Grandpa's place and bedded down for the night.
