My journal entry for Thursday, February 1, 1968

Happy day! I have now got one month of my young life recorded. So far, keeping a diary has not been too big of a strain. If homework and late nights do not come very frequently, I believe I can keep this going for at least a full year.

I very reluctantly crawled out of bed at 6:45 this morning. Mom fried me up a good breakfast—pancakes, bacon, and an egg. I brushed my teeth, combed my wig, washed my face and paws, and in general got ready for school. We took the car, and arrived in plenty of time for chorus.

School was back to normal today. No photographers or any other foreigners disrupted the routine. Typing went smoother than usual, but we were assigned a great big long hard test for tomorrow in Geography. Mr. Card didn't pile on too big an assignment in Geometry. I typed up some information for my Science project in Krotz's class.

We had hamburger gravy on potatoes for a main dish at dinner. Home-made bread, beans (green), and plums made up the "accessories." I devoted my noon hour to becoming more physically fit. We played football and soccer on the football field.

Mrs. Jess filled the sophomore class in on the latest "Dear Abbey" problems during English. She had watched Art Linkletter at Mrs. Risse's home over the noon hour, and became acquainted with a lot of gossip from all over the world. The rest of the class was used to discuss Literature.

McKay took Ernie and Mary out for Driver's Ed, so the rest of us "studied." When the drivers got back, the girls went to phys ed. Mr. McKay and we boys had another "story time" session. He taught us how to use toilet paper—Scotch style—but it bears not repeating.

During basketball practice, we worked plays mostly. I substitute for Ken, and just do what he does. It makes it easy that way. Every night we are required to shoot 25 free shots. My ratio came up from last night—8 out of 25, instead of the 5 out of 25 last night. Mr. Nelson turned us loose a little after 5:00.

I drove up to Grandma's and picked up the girls. They had already picked up groceries and the mail, so we came right home. I grabbed a roll, changed my clothes, and went out to help Dad. He was just finishing the job of varnishing the saddle room. The barn is getting to be a pretty snazzy joint and does the Green Valley up proud.

I fed the bulls their grain and gave old Hawk Eye some hay. A calf is in the barn with pneumonia. Dr. Waterman fixed him up and tested some bulls today.

We had supper, and Dad left for Masonic Lodge at Martin. I've been fighting with my sisters ever since.

Today was "young" Uncle Joy's (Joy Fairhead) birthday. [He turned 43 on that day.]

Did i figure right, Uncle Joy would be 100 :o :o :D

I shouldn't try to do math in my head while drowsy, or any other time for that matter. :-) He would have been 43 on that day, and 90 now, if he was still here. He was two years younger than my dad.
