My journal entry for Thursday, January 4, 1968

Today was another cool day, but it seems like every day is just a little warmer than the last. It got all the way up to about 22 degrees today, and is supposed to be a little nicer yet tomorrow.

The alarm rang at 5:00 this morning but Dad told me to get a little more rest. I was too tired to argue, so went back to bed.

I got up again at about 6:30, had breakfast, and got ready for school. Sybil didn't go today on account of her broken arm, but Sandra and I arrived at 8:00. Chorus was cancelled because both Mr. and Mrs. Phipps were sick with the flu.

We practiced the play all morning. After dinner, we went to English class. Mrs. Jess seemed to be in a pretty good mood, and no assignment was given. In Driver's Ed, the next class, we saw a movie about inconsiderate drivers and court procedures. We lucked out as far as an assignment was concerned here, too. I spent the rest of the school day reading a novel.

After school and a "safe" ride home, I changed clothes, ate a snack, and went out to help Dad. We put a new tire on the tractor, did chores, and adjourned to the house for the night.

Ken gave me an old 1935 saddlery catalog that Uncle Stan found over at Ralph Arnot's. It has interesting saddles, equipment, and prices.

In the new Hereford Journal, a Hereford tour to Australia is being advertised. I was all enthused so Dad said he'd pay half if I could get John Fairhead and Ken Moreland to go with me. This gives a guy something to think about, though nothing will probably ever come of it.

Man my dad would'a still been disgusted at me for rolling the pickup to even think about letting me take a trip. Although Australia would of been a good place to hide. :D

I like your journal entries. Hope you have continued to write in one throughout your life.

I just did it for the one year. There are several other years that have entries for about a week in January.
