My journal entry for Tuesday, May 21, 1968

I got up at 6:30, had breakfast, and then got ready to go to Weber's branding. I saddled my bay mare, jingled my spurs, and headed out.

Jig got rather tired the day before yesterday, but she must have a better recovery rate than I do. She alertly took in most of any action that went on.

I rode about straight north of our place to get to Weber's summer range. Weber's hired hand, Ben, and I rounded up their east pasture and then loped west a mile or so to where the branding was going on. After finishing branding there, we rode back to where the other cattle were corralled. Two bunches were run through that corral, and I roped for one. When these cattle were done, we headed for the buildings and did about 30 more calves.
Bruce wanted to brand and castrate a couple young horses, but nobody would take on the responsibility. Dad would have, but he and Lloyd had gone down to the Leach Place to sort cattle. Doug Ward was hired to help at the branding to help represent our ranch.

Like usual, I ate too much at the good big branding dinner. I had to ride home kind of slow to keep from getting sick.

Dad told me I could rest this afternoon, so I took advantage of this opportunity and had a good nap. I then caught up on Sunday's diary and pestered my sisters.

Lloyd and I did chores when he and Dad arrived home about 7:00.

Nencil and Catherine (Mom's uncle and his wife) called tonight. They will be out sometime Thursday, and want to attend Uncle Joy's branding.
