NCBA Paying OFF CBB

Hey, mrj - I just had another thought. The next time you guys at NCBA are skimming money from the Checkoff, instead of wasting it on tours in Hawaii, eating $600 meals in California, paying staff to go to golf tournaments, sending wives on vacation, etc, etc, etc...

Why don't y'all take a few bucks and send your new president to the freakin' barbershop? :lol:

:lol: :lol: :lol: Yep- as I remember- when he was one of the original members of and associated with R-CALF and leading the movement against the Canadians dumping cheap cattle- and the use of Packer owned Canadian captive supplies that was killing the US producers market- he was called an old hippy by the Canucks and Maxines...
Now that he is their "cult" leader he can do no wrong- and being proclaimed as the Saviour of the beef industry !!! :wink: :lol: :lol:

USDA/CBB are looking at it right with their plans to provide funding for "total audits" of all Checkoff money-- and after the misuse which I saw for years- and reported- and those proven with a summary audit this year-- NCBA's use/abuse would/should be most scrutinized.....

Nope-- we/R-CALF haven't ever been discriminatory-totally concerned for the betterment of the average/family cattle producer- but I'll bet some of those old Maxine type fogies are wondering where things are going? ( altho they will never admit it).....

Don't count on just that story Beefman, it is not going away.

Beefman...I'll accept ANY proof source you can come up with which states "a 1% audit of just over two years = $217K of misuse and abuse was found". Please bring it. Good luck.

From what I can find out Beefman the 1% audit figure came from the CBB. The $217,000 is the amount of misuse (mistakes) that the audit turned up in the 29 months. No one is denying it.

Of course not nor did I say NCBA did nothing wrong. Mistakes have obviously been made which means the audit is working as it should. That's why you have the CBB and that's why you have audits. The debate on how checkoff dollars should be spent is healthy and necessary. I'm all for accountability because I've seen the results of a lack of it.

I asked OT if he could provide examples of checkoff abuses which he could not. No surprise there.

OT, is that your same "non-discriminatory", all inclusive R-CALF group which hates NCBA because they work with packers, retailers and others who make our cattle into useful beef?
Or is it the same old bunch who kicked out their original leader and others who tried to take the organization on a different track?
Or is it that same bunch that keeps the same stale old directors-for-life?

Re. 'hair styles', some people are more impressed with the brain under the hair, or with the integrity of the person.

If it bothers you hat much, why don't you go talk to Bill about it???

BTW. the video taken at the Cayuse Cattle Company shows a well managed and run outfit, quality cattle, and horses, and people, including Bill Donald, who obviously have had experience using them!

Finally, the "Cayuse Tails" worn by many at the convention indicate friends with a great sense of humor, as the 'original' has. That is no small advantage when dealing with narrow minded, provincial type people bent on going backward in time, or worse yet, litigating their way to prosperity, rather than working to make the cattle/beef industry the best it can be for all of us!!!

Group Supports Checkoff Recommendations
by Cattlemen's Beef Board


Billings, Mont. – In a letter sent this month to Cattlemen's Beef Board (CBB) Chairman Tom Jones, R-CALF USA expressed appreciation for the actions taken by the CBB, its Roles and Responsibilities Committee and its Executive Committee.



"Our members are gratified that the CBB … [is] taking affirmative and appropriate action to meaningfully address the known conflicts of interest, bias, favoritism and improper expenditures that have damaged the credibility and integrity of the CBB and the Beef Checkoff Program," the group wrote.



Particularly noteworthy, the letter states, were the "important recommendations to change the organization's committee structure and require more direct, overall oversight by the CBB," which R-CALF USA hopes will transfer substantial control from those who have misused funds to the control of Checkoff funds by CBB members themselves.



The letter informs Jones and the CBB that R-CALF USA represents thousands of all-voluntary cattle-producing members who raise cattle in 46 states and are major, annual contributors to the Beef Checkoff Program. Those members depend on the CBB to be their voice for independent cattle producers who pay the Checkoff, and in the letter, the CBB is urged to "persevere in this classic struggle to restore, for all checkoff-paying cattle producers regardless of their affiliations, the integrity and effectiveness of their Beef Checkoff Program."



R-CALF USA ends the letter urging the CBB to improve the methods with which they manage the millions of dollars of beef producers' money: "We urge you and your fellow CBB members to not only stand firm, but to aggressively forge ahead and implement your recommendations."
