LINCOLN — Sarah Pavan's résumé keeps getting longer and more impressive by the week.
On Monday, the Nebraska volleyball star earned a spot on the 2008 NCAA Today's Top VIII honor roll, one of the highest awards a college athlete can receive. The annual list recognizes eight senior standouts in both men's and women's sports from all NCAA divisions.
Pavan becomes the 16th Nebraska athlete — a total that leads the nation — to earn the honor, and she also is only the 12th volleyball player in NCAA history to be recognized.
Husker football players previously honored were Randy Schleusener (1981), Dave Rimington (1983), Mark Traynowicz (1985), Jake Young (1990), Pat Tyrance (1991), Rob Zatechka (1994), Trev Alberts (1994), Aaron Graham (1996) and Grant Wistrom (1998).
Other Nebraska volleyball standouts to be named Top VIII were Virginia Stahr (1990), Janet Kruse (1992) and Nancy Metcalf (2002). The only other Huskers named to the list were all gymnasts. Tom Schlesinger did it in 1989, Patrick Kirksey made it in 1991 and Richelle Simpson was honored in 2005.
