Pulled muscles, bruised tendon, bruised or abscessed sole, or needs chiropractic. Hard to guess without seeing him. I usually find a puffy tendon whenever my horses come up lame overnight. I hope he heals up for you.

One of mine stepped in a shallow hole once and he kept a sore foot for a few days like what you described. We couldn't find anything on him...he just favored the foot.

Ck the pasture/lot he's in.....might be surprised what ya might find!

If he is still walking lame, with point of toe, and not putting weight on heel. Look more towards his stifle area, you can rock him and feel if it catches. If you roped something on him , you could easily have just got it irritated. They can just as well stepped wrong playing and running with the other horses as well. Stall rest and staying off of him can help, usually you can tell in a few days if its just sore or if maybe there was a some damage done. This is common in our cow horses that work off the hind quarters...age has a lot to do with it sometimes. Just make sure to take him in to the vet if he doesnt start putting more weight on the heel. He can give you a shot to relax him and then you need to do some stretches so that he can get the movement back in it. Much like you having a pulled groin.

thanks guys I just got in from the barn an hes puttin some presure on the heal but is still kind of gamey I'll check the pasture down by the creek or some of the paths these old pines that have been dead for years rot under the ground and make a perfect little sinkhole about 6 inches around don't no why I didn't think of it before guess I just was so amazed that he was crippled and for once couldn't find a cause on him

cowpuncher I'm in NE Ga...and a stump hole from a skinny pine is what caused my problem.

It took me several attempts but each and every time I went into that small pasture I took the time and hunted up a few rocks and filled a hole. A day or so later...I'd go fill up another. Now it's just a habit I have when I find one of those pine holes...I just pile rocks in it. Works like a charm!!
