Here is what we were doing today. Went to a friends to pick up some heifers. Got 11 of them, could have taken 25, if we only had the money...... These girls haven't seen any grain at all this winter. I am thinking they weigh about 700 lbs, we will weigh them tomorrow most likely.

Looks like a good start of a nice herd what will you breed them to ??

We will probably breed them Black Angus this year, after that it will be Angus, Hereford or Angus x Simm.

They are not a starter herd, although you are right they would make a good starter. With these girls we will have 41 heifers to breed, along with about 140 head of cows.

Those look like nice heifers, congratulations on a good purchase! Yes, my red heifer would feel right at home with those girls :)

Hope your calving is still going well. Mine slowed down today. I actually had more born outside than I did in my heavy lot  . I planned to sort tomorrow, but am off a day! It should be good weather tonight, and so anything that calves out should be okay weatherwise.

I've got six cows going into labor this evening, and so it looks like I'll be up awhile. I hope you're getting rest!

Thank you, she would look good in there  . But, I can console myself with some of those girls. They are quite nice, and really quiet. That is very important to me, rather have a quiet heifer that isn't so nice, than a beautiful, wild one......

We have had 4 so far today. No problems, they all had them on their own. So far, we have only had one dropped outside, but we do need to sort again, before we have a bunch out there. Our weather is wonderful here too, so like you we aren't too worried if we have a calf or 2 outside.

We will go out in an hour or so, then we will know how late we (I) have to stay up. Have about 4 out there that are pretty close, and then there are the ones that like to surprise us. We are getting enough nap time here, and if the weather holds, that won't be a problem. Keep on your toes, and happy calving :D

I hope you don't mind me saying this Randilana, but that #55 heifer looks like she might be a little bit pregnant.

I think it is just the way she is standing in the picture. I do see what you are talking about though, and I never noticed it out in the pen. She shouldn't be, he does pull his bulls.

I agree, I'll take quiet over looks anyday. Looks to me like you got both quiet and nice looking heifers... what more could a person ask for?

Two of the cows have calved, and the others are in various stages. Kinda like lining up airplanes on a runway for departure. They've all been cleared for take-off, but none are getting airborne  At least it's a beautiful night, and the stars are shining bright. It sounds like stormy weather later this week and so I'm enjoying it while I can!

Yeah, it would be nice though if they would be done with it. I got one I am waiting on too. She figured she would do it the easy way, and simply take over a newborn. So we put her up in the corral, looks like she was a little ways from actually calving, and now, I have to decide how long to wait on her. It is a gorgeous night, stars are shining here too. They are calling for rain showers tomorrow here, so we are crossing our fingers. Hope we get something.....
