Back quite a few years ago, Shortgrass drove a truck up in Alaska. A couple of his truck-driving buddies had this story to tell. Both trucks were traveling together somewhere part way between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Some of that road is pretty much up and down as it goes through some deep mountain valleys. The driver in the back noticed the leading truck swerve hard to the left but it kept on driving up over the next hill. When the second driver arrived at the swerved out spot, a moose was seen floundering on the icy highway.
The second driver was disgusted that the first trucker hadn't stopped to finish off the hit moose to put it out of its misery. He stopped his truck and realized that the only thing he had to kill it with was a ballpeen hammer. Even though the big moose couldn't get its footing, it provided quite a tussle. Many blows from the ballpeen hammer were required to kill the moose.
The first driver had stopped and was waiting for the second driver to catch up. He said, "What have you been doing that took you so long?"
The second driver replied, "Well, why don't you stop and finish killing a moose that you have hit?"
The first driver responded that he hadn't ever hit the moose. The big animal had blundered out onto the slick ice-covered highway and fell down. He had just swerved so he wouldn't hit it.
The second driver felt kind of funny realizing that he had just killed a perfectly good moose with a ballpeen hammer. :? :shock:

They are as dumb as a post. I saw a cow and calf today along the highway she stood and stared at me for a good ten minutes-wouldn't run off. A carload of natives pulled up behind me and said they were hunting mooses so I suppose she's a gutpile now. I honked my horn at her and had no luck getting her to leave.
