Well, we've had four mares foal so far, and the one that foaled last night, "Roan," is my favorite...So what color is her little filly going to be???

I agree with Faster Horses about the color

It must be the year of the Buckskin everyone that emails me new pics of their foals the only color I have seen so far are Buckskins including my own. All Filly's to boot. Your filly is really nice.

Hey this reminds me of something.
Up here Dun, Palomino, Grula and Buckskin is what everybody is looking for.
When I buy colts I always try to buy these colors because I know when I go to sell these colts im going to get atleast $500 more for them.
Example if I had two bridle horses for sale and one was a buckskin and the other was chestnut. Say both horses were equal in every way. I would easily sell the buckskin faster and get $500 more for him just because of the color.
Now because of this lately most of the horses that im useing are buckskin type horses. What im finding though and THEY ARE NOT ALL LIKE THIS, but some of them it seems like the hair is more sensative. Example bald spot where the hackamore touches them. Hair wore down from where the saddle goes. Really seem more prone to getting cinch sore.
LOL No my horses are not all bald and cinch sore! But on these colored horses some of them seem so much more prone to stuff like that compared to say a sorrel horse.
Its really not a problem. I use 100% wool navaho blankets. However if I used a synthetic or synthetic/cotton blend pad im thinking it would be a problem on some of these colts.
Same thing with cinches. I use mohair but im thinking if I was just using an old dirty cinch that I would have troubles faster with these colored horses.
Some of these colored horses just seem more sensative than others.
I had one that I pretty much started in a snaffle because if I would have rode him much in a bosal he would have been bald.
Anybody else notice this with there colts?
 
Thanks for the complements. I just realized how kinda feabile and ugly she looks...Mr. TTB took the pics when she was 'bout 6 hours old. Hopefully she gets cuter :wink: maybe I'll see if we can get a better pic in the next couple of days.

I was raised by my Dad's big buckskin..."Buck" Dad could never catch Buck, but I could anywhere, anytime. I dearly loved that horse, and was dearly heart broken when he died at 30+ years of age. I hope we get to keep this little gal, but I also have the feeling that she'll be in our sale.

Do you see a pattern in creative naming here :D Actually I usually get a little more creative. Roan's two other foals are Macaroani and Itchy (loves scratching.)

Our other three foals born thus far are all palaminos. I will have to try and post some pics of them this weekend...I hope folks like the color "yellow" come sale time this fall!

I had a foal that was a grulla. Next year lightened up to a line back Dun. Next year he turned grey, but still Tiger Stripe and Line Back. The next year the Dorsal Stripe was gone, LOL....He still is a prett good looking horse, I call him Duece,


The guy I bought him from had a lot of horses that kinda did similar color changes,

I think your colt s very cute,they're all skinny and gangly at first but still the most beautiful animal baby there is! :D This year we're only expecting one colt.
