Here are a few pics I took last weekend, thought maybe y'all would like to see what we've been up to!

Al, saddling up Blue Boy

Image-347.jpg

Hubby, stretching to get the bridle on Badger (this is the sire to the filly in my siggy picture)

Image-338.jpg

Here the filly is, at about 10 months old

Image-359.jpg

Hubby and Al waiting on Hubby's brother and nephew to get saddled up and ready to ride

The Chuck Wagon

Image-370.jpg

Bringing the cattle to the corral, Hubby is on the near side, Al is trotting up on the far side, to get to the gate and turn them in

Image-376.jpg

Cattle in the corral, Al's cow, Blondie, and her calf are in the foreground

Image-381.jpg

Working on the branding iron heater.......

Image-383.jpg

Ground crew ready and waiting

Image-385.jpg

Al flanking the first calf

Image-398.jpg

Blondie's calf's turn at the irons

Image-431.jpg

A nice big heifer calf that about tore the ground crew up, kicked Hubby and Al both, was just a real "booger"

Image-438.jpg

Another shot of Al's pair, after the branding

Image-445.jpg

Turned out to pasture

Al's 4-H steer, Wheezy, on the scale last Sunday--584# of Brangus beef....ADG 10.5#

Image-452.jpg

And his crossbred 4-H heifer, Bandita, getting her turn.....she weighed in at 508# this week...ADG 7.5#

I sure enjoy your countryside...Well do ya spose you've set the wheels in motion for the first set of branding pictures this year? Brandings are just around the corner around here, ours included the last of April. Looks like since yur all keeping busy, ya don't have much time for gettin into trouble.. thanks

Blue Boy, and the one Hubby's brother was riding belong to the brother. The one that our nephew was riding and the stud, Badger, belongs to Hubby's dad.
The one BIL was riding (and roping off) is the same one that I posted a pic of Al brushing him in front of the barn last summer, and won a blue ribbon at our fair with. His name is Kid. He's coming along pretty well for a "kid"........he was just gettin broke when Al was riding him last summer.
Our horses are run-of-the-mill plain-ole Quarters.........a bay with a little star off-center, a sorrel with a star, and a red dun. Used to have some "pretty" hosses, but that was long ago........

Can't believe we got the first branding pics on here.........

Love the country here, too. Just wish it was easier to make a living doing what we love here..........

Here's 3 more for ya!!!!!!!

One of 2 yearlings.......Blaze's paint horse colt, and Peachy's filly again (they're half brother and sister)
Image-337.jpg

One of Peachy.......she didn't "winter" too well...........:(

Just curious, how do you figure their ADG's? How old are they? Just curious :)

When is your 4-H fair? I'm glad to see Al is getting involved with cattle, and has a heifer again this year :)

MCG has a bull calf picked out, will start halter breaking him when school is done....really nice bull calf. I would post a pic but all our digital cameras died so no more pics from this outfit for awhile

Nice pictures, interesting country. I'll bet there are some big fires up there sometimes. Amazing calves to gain around 300lbs. a month

Things are looking good down your way Ranchy. And thanks a lot for giving those of us in the N. country the itch for branding season, and nice weather. Good luck with all your new ventures BTW!

Might want to recheck your figures on those ADG's. Does that stand for "Average Daily Gain" in your book as it does in mine?

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back and answer questions........been busier than a one-legged fella in a butt-kickin contest around here lately!

Hanta Yo, Bandita was born 7-3 and Wheezy hit the ground on 7-24 (near as I can figure, from the inspection papers we have for them) so they're just about 9 months old right now. I guess I should have made it more clear that the ADG was for the week between the first time they were weighed, and the second  Color me embarsassed...... .........Bandita went from 445# to 508#, and Wheezy gained from 500# to 584#.
After weighing last weekend (on Saturday, so only 6 days), Bandita had gained up to 556# (ADG that week of 8#) , and Wheezy is weighing in at a cool 620# (ADG for week of 6#). He's been a little under the weather, though, so had to "shoot" him with a dose of LA200. Hopefully, that will get him started back gaining well again. I did find out that minimum weight for steers is no longer 750#, but has been raised to 1,000#, so he's got to make every bite count. Still no minimum for heifers, though. Whew! Fair here is the 23-26 of August, with steer weigh-in and noon on Thursday, and show that evening...... They show the heifers that same evening, too.
Can hardly wait till we can see pics of MCG's bull! :D

Cal, thanks, we kinda like it here, too! Last summer, we had some huge fires burning to the south of us (3 firest that eventually burned together, they called them the something-or-other Complex)........if we hadn't have had all the rain we did last summer, this place would have probably gone up in smoke......the whole thing! :? :( Too many years of forest service mis-management......
If ole Wheez would gain 300# a month, Al would definately be in business by the fair........

Tap, they're starting to green up a bit......have filerie blooming like crazy in our yard for about 6 weeks now (I won't mention those little yeller flowers with the puff-ball seedheads are too  ) and the cows are lookin pretty good! And you're most welcome, for the "itch" Hopefully, nice weather will be right around the corner for y'all, too. Not so nice here the last few days, been too cold and windy to suit me......but I'm pretty hard to please. Thanks for the luck.......still wish something different would have worked out, but that's the way things go sometimes. :?

ODNT, it's a sandstone bluff that runs along the river.......about 7-800' high, at that particular place. It's right across the creek from the in-law's house.........these pictures were taken almost in their front yard. It's pretty down there, but if a flood comes down, then look out! And head out the back door, where the mountain is (in the picture of the yearlings).......

Sundancer............I goofed............ Although they have gotten pretty big........they were tiny little dogies when they came to be adopted by the milk cow last summer, after her calf and the first two adoptees died......I have a pic of them in my computer somewhere, just so you can see! :D

Image-461.jpg

The black baldie bull calf to the left of these kids was a normal sized calf........they were just so little! :)
