Candy Restrictions For Parade Safety
ALLIANCE - For the safety of all children, candy may not be thrown from Heritage Days parade floats, the Alliance Chamber of Commerce emphasized today. Candy can be given out by walkers.

"This rule will be strictly enforced this year!" Chamber Director Dixie Nelson said. The deadline for parade entries is Friday, July 14.

Lineup begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at the Burkholder Center with judging at 9:30. The parade will begin at 10 a.m., proceeding south to Third Street then east to Safeway.

I read this article and it amazed me a parade without candy on the floats, I'm thinking there will be more walkers............

during our 4th of July parade, we were informed by the "powers that be" that we were no longer allowed to "toss candy from the moving vehicles", due to the amount of parade watchers (NOT just kids, either  ) who run out into the streets and into the traffic of oncoming floats and horses to get the goodies....therefore, I had to "hand to hand" deliver the candy to the folks watching!! Sure put the miles on my feet that day! Unfortunately, a few of the floats in front of ours obviously had not gotten the "memo" about the candy!!! Probably ruined it for the rest of us and they will end up banning handing out candy all together!!
