Ty went for an MRI on Thursday and the specialist phoned tonight-he's got a torn lateral miniscus and a cyst on the back of his knee. Once he goes under the klnife he's out for 2-3 months. The Dr. can't believe he can take the pain to skate with it. Ty was actually thinking it was feeling a bit better lately. Sounds like he's going to operate right after playoffs and hopefully be good to go for the spring rodeo season.

Small towns in Sask. know they have to share their athletes with other sports. I'm his hockey coach and he hurt his knee playing football so nobody says much. There's about three weeks in October when all three overlap but other than that there's not much trouble with being in all three. one day this fall he got 200 yards rushing and rode a bronc in a bull all in one afternoon lol. So far football has been the hardest on the body.

You can't keep abuseing your body and expect to stay injury free. When he get's about 40 he'll feel like he's 80 just personel experience talking..

Hope he heal's well and quickly.

From what I've seen here football is for sure the hardest on these kids. There was a classmate of my stepson hurt this fall had to have brain surgery and was in tough shape for awhile. All the newspaper could talk about was how he made the block that won the game as they scored on that drive and went to the playoff's.I thought (BIG DEAL)

My Dad is in a wheel chair has been for 20 years if he ever got out of it he would'nt abuse his body ever.

Teenage boys that have any fire will find some way to put themselves in danger-some ride broncs-some ride dirt bikes some just get drunk and tear up the backroads. You can avoid chances to get hurt all you want and get hit by a bus when your 30 too.

Take him golfing.

I have a screwed up left knee from football and have had 2 surgeries on my neck from it. Both hurt everyday. (Or night)

My buddy down the road who was right beside me on the football field just had a knee replacement 6 months ago. He is halfway walking normally now.

As much as I loved it, I wish I had been a swimmer or golfer, or, a chess player.

Mike, I am in the same boat. and now as my boy is old enough to play, I have mixed feelings....but man, that glory is sweet!!! almost makes it worth the pain I live with today.....

remember the girls after a win in high school??? well worth the pain!

I'll be sure and run the chess player and golfer ideas past Ty lol. I've broke my back-chipped some vertebrae-cracked ribs etc-no regrets at all-I've got a pretty wife to rub it when I'm sore. As for warning kids about future dangers I'm more worriued about the future health of a fat kid skarfing down french fries then I ever am of an athlete in a rough sport.

Don't know if thats any better.........5 of us guys ran together all thru high school. Two of us played football and ran rodeo. Of the other three, 2 played golf & 1 played tennis. Me & my buddy still complain about our aches & pains, but atleast we still can..............the other 3 are dead (from heart attacks)!.........go figure...............

Yeah, I remember the girls - in my school half of them were my cousins, and we don't live by Arkansas rules! Pretty slim pickens for me.

I've got a knee that pops and gives out every now and then, and I still remind the QB that threw that ball on the play that did it that he needs to keep his throws down.

I had a good friend growing up and he kept telling me I would regret playing sports.... Now I am 38 and my knees remind me of the sports I played. Had a couple surgeries but I can run in the hills with the best of them. I would not have done it different if I could have a do over, I will not push my kids into sports, but I sure as hell will not discourage em either. As for my friend who did not play sports..... He is 38 yrs old lives in the city is 50 lbs over weight, on high bloodpressure and high cholesterol meds. go figure,
Tell ty if he gets to beat up to guide he can become a pilot.lol Shawn

what?? you folks would not let you date out of the family???

It is hard to stop em from hunting. My son hurt his knee and will get an MRI after the first of the year and probably surgery after his sports are done. I kidded him and said he would have to quit hunting..........he told me he would use a winch or whatever he had to to get in his treestand. I know he will never regret his sports even with his problems with his knee. Heck his other knee got hurt in high school and he limped through a couple years before he got it fixed, so he will do what he has to to get through till he gets it fixed.

I think the HUGE point we are all missing here is the difference between a kid loving the game,. knowing the risks, and playing anyway, and the kid who is forced into every camp and work out and leauge imaginable by a parent trying to live out his second childhood.

AMEN :!:

I never graduated from childhood, I guess. I'm playing basketball with a bunch of other 30+ adolescents, and trying to get the boxing club fired back up in town. When my kids are old enough, I'll try and get them to whatever they want to do. Of course, by then, the way things are going, hockey will be too damn expensive. And the driving blows my mind. My cousin drives his kids every weekend at least 100 miles - one-way - to hockey games. That adds up quick.

Sure hate to hear about Ty's injuries...but being the tuff kid he is,,,he'll do ok...

As a parent it is hard to think about the injuries from sports...it's probably a mom thing...I think in my family bad knees and necks are heriditary...my dad bad knee, from work,,brother bad knee, from Navy,,,me bad Knee, from horse, son bad knee from football plus his hips too...Now the weird thing is...that all 4 of us it's the same knee!
