Atta boy grcreek!! :D Nice to see someone getting the bastards.

I had a 2 day old calf go missing the other day. I found it the next morning down by the creek. There was about 4 little pieces of ribs, a few chips, the top of a back leg bone and that was it. No hide, no backbone, nothing. And no tracks because it had snowed that morning. I thought bear because everything was gone, others say wolf (I think because wolves are around). Either way, it's open season on all as far as I'm concerned.

Good job. We now have our very own 'documented' wolves in our area...aren't we lucky :???: They killed a bunch of sheep and lambs about 6 miles from here...so they trapped one and put a radio collar on so they will know where it is the next time it kills something

Could be either one Silver. On older stock bears usually leave a well skinned hide. We lost a baby calf to a grizzly a few years back and all that was left was a shoulder blade. Puppies will almost always clean up everything including licking the blood off the grass.

That's the funny thing, I couldn't see any blood on the grass. And there was no snow where the remains were, like the snow just didn't stick there. Wolves have pups already?

If you are lucky enough to get it remember that those collars fit perfectly around the axle of an east bound freight truck.

Yep, if you find lots of tracks in a small area there should be a den close by.

Do you know if wolves ever take up in old bear dens? I was thinking about checking one out that is close to where this calf was killed.

Not likely, the bench wouldn't like the smell of bear near her pups or the chance of one coming back. They will reuse their own densite quite often though. Wouldn't hurt having a look.

Good to know :) Just heard that they are now about 1/2 mile from us. Guess Fish and Game are trying all kinds of stuff to haze them away and they won't go anywhere. Are saying if they kill again they will shoot them.

What do those dipsh!!s think they eat? Are they planning on paking lunches for them every day? Biologists and Bunny Sherriffs are the only step down from predators.

Well??

Nuthin. Neighbour shot a bear this morning that was in his cows about 1 1/2 miles from ours. And he saw a lone wolf. I'll go on another patrol tonight.
