Notes On The Rem Model 788

If knowing your stuff is serving up complete unadulterated B.S. The excessive muzzle blast on the .243 carbine was especially rich-my 90 pound twelve year old girl never noticed it. I guess all we do is shoot ours all year long from yotes to moose with no trouble. I guess if your a handloading paper puncher they might not be ideal but I've shot them for 30 plus years without a hiccough.

Mike Walker, who I think created the 788, (he also created the Models 721, 722, Model 700, Rem 40X, the .222, among MANY other various rifles-cartridges) while he was the head engineer for Remington, was an avid benchrest shooter.

I sat on the bench next to him at the "Super Shoot" one year. He was one nice guy. God rest him.

Just an example how "Handloading Paper Punchers" have influenced modern shooting technology.

I'm sure he was-but I'll put first hand experience over conjecture any day-come on man slamming a rifle because you might lose a clip. You had a rant about the 788's about a year ago. they are like just about every remington mad -a pretty good rifle-while except for that cheap plastic POS they came out with awhile ago-the 710 I think. Probably somebody somewhere likes them. By the way that little .243 carbine is a tack driver.

I have no idea what your f______ problem is.........but I thought it was giving the 788 a pretty good report by a guy who knows his stuff.

If I remember correctly, I have written a few lines here about the 788 but gave both pros and cons.

I'd bet you have no idea what a real tack driver is.................Elmer.

Ladies ladies quit your bickering, a tack driver is like the tack hammer we made in shop class last year, lol.

I don't mind the 788, but I'm definately a bigger fan of the pump, the Remington model 7600

I agree with you NR.
I have NEVER had a problem with my 788 kicking out empties, not even with my newer bigger scope.
The guy may like the 788 a little bit but I thought what he said was a bunch of crap. I'm probably biased since this is my first rifle and it was a birthday gift.
Only thing I read that I really agreed with is it is easy to lose clips, but if you know where to look they have made some more.

I did find out that it does much better with a hot round then an average round.
I knocked our target over with one shot.
I love my gun. :D

A rifle expert and a potty mouth-if you can't say something nice about a person's favorite gun don't say nothing at all and damn straight don't type what I doubt you'd say face to face. By the way my problem is you at the present lol.

Boys, boys, Everybody knows that if you don't have a Savage, you just don't have a gun!

I totally agree. For out of the box they(Savage) are hard to beat.

But I will say I have had a 788 in .223,22-250, and .243 and they all shoot very well. I would really like to find one in 6mm someday.

ggeessshhh I thought shooting was a personal choice......Me, my savage is good for bench shooting...but my alltime fav is my Rossi 357 rifle.
YES I know yall are talking Shotguns...I HATE shotguns they are too heavy and kick way too much....My arms are too short and my center of gravity is too high LOLOLOLOLOLOL
As long as we enjoy shooting and are safe yyeeaahhhhaaawwwww Guns are fun. Yall shoot what you find the best and all guns are the best
