If any of you are going to be in Valentine for either of both events, look us up. Lisa is going to have a booth at both of them, and I will be wandering around looking lost. :)

We saw Soapweed at both of them. Make sure you guys ask him about his new horses :D ! If any of the rest of you were there I sure didn't know you. We had a great time, and visited with lots of people.

We didn't make it. Sounds like it was a fun day.
I want to thank flyingS for his great job of scoping out a horse
for us; even though we didn't get the bid, we so appreciate
his help. Katrina called and told us what a thorough job
he did in our behalf...so big thanks FlyingS and you too,
Katrina.

If you need someone to look at a horse for you, I can
certainly recommend flyingS.

I understand Soapweed bought a beautiful, cowy, buckskin
5 year old gelding. Don't know what else he got tho...so
I hope he fills us in.

Modern communication ain't what it's cracked up to be.    :-)

I ended up getting Lot 11 and Lot 84. Have high hopes for both of these marvelous critters. :-)

ThebuckskinisZeke.jpg

The buckskin is Zeke, and he is four years old. He reminds me a lot of my favorite horse of all time, ol' Tom Cat. He is by Doc's Croton Lobo, by Son of Hickory,
by Doc's Hickory on the top side, and has Enterprise breeding on the bottom.
Zekehasamustache.jpg

Zeke has a mustache, as did Tom Cat.
Hiscowlickisntespeciallyhigh.jpg

Zeke's cowlick isn't especially high, and Tom Cat's wasn't either. They are both colored the same, right down to the dorsal stripe
and stripes on their legs. All these similarities makes the gamble plumb worthwhile.

Tic is the sorrel, and is a three-year-old. He is by Patty's Sun Pat, by Pat Cowan, by Sun Frost on the top, and is out of a mare named Flossie Lee, by Dales Lee Doc,
by Doc O Do. He also goes back to Triple Goldrush on both his top and bottom side.
Butwhatonefriendcallsabadneck.jpg

I was looking at a friend's catalog, and he marked Tic as having a "bad neck." His theory is that a neck shaped like this is apt to indicate
a high-headed horse, because the horse is more comfortable with their head high in the air. So far I have not
noticed this being a problem with Tic.
Tichasahighercowlick.jpg

Tic has a higher cowlick than does Zeke.

A white spot on Tic's belly makes him ineligible to be registered.

Ty started a couple Doc's Hickory bred horses for a lady-he had a hard time giving them up they were nice horses for sure-she went on and was Miss Rodeo Canada in '09.

Nice, Soapweed, very nice. And nice that you let Peach have Zeke.

I agree, I have always heard that a mustache on a horse is a sign of a
good one...

The sorrell looks much better than he did in the catalog.
Keep us posted...but they both look like really nice young horses.

Zeke has such a nice short neck and the right kind of throatlatch to enable
him to carry his head nicely. I think what the man may have
meant about Tic's neck is the extra muscle (for lack of a better
word) on the underside of his neck. Some people think those
horses have their neck on upside down, which makes it harder
for a horse to have a nice headset. I guess time will tell...but like
you, I wouldn't worry much about it.

Soap, if you're referring to inegibility for AQHA registration due to that white spot, you've been misinformed. AQHA has changed it's white rule; if a horse born of two registered AQHA parents manifests excessive white (as Tic does), the horse is eligible for AQHA registration pending parentage verification of the horse via DNA test (which costs less than $50 through the AQHA, and requires simply pulling a mane sample -- roots included -- and sending them in an AQHA-supplied envelope to UC Davis). The AQHA has a special offer right now that allows a horse to be registered for a flat fee of $300 despite the horse's age (registering a 3year old was previously $500 or so, and a horse age four or older $1000).

Thanks for the information, Chimenea. I will certainly take this into consideration as a "value added" option.
