It got down to -4F overnight so I went to make sure there was still open water - - - if you look close the cow is standing right over the discharge culvert, her right front foot is on it and the area where she is drinking is right at the end. This was a small swampy area about 1/8th of an acre that I dipped out with a backhoe about 30 years ago and then dipped it out again about 5 years ago. It is in a corner of a 16 acre field that had no useable water. Water is about 5 foot deep for most of it with a small area about 10' so that fist can over winter as I do not want mosquitoes - - - I am of the opinion you will raise some fish or you will raise mosquitoes and I prefer fish even if they are just trash fish.

Open water area enough that you could put a 5 gal bucket into it if you wanted - - - only 18 head so they just wait and drink as they want.

As I left 3 were drinking at the same time. I thought about turning the water on at the barn but then I have to heat it and I'm cheap. Don't get me wrong if they did not have open water I would have turned it on.

Cattle look to be in fine shape and I see nothing wrong with your system.

I had open water today also. Pipe broke in the pump house and I had a river thru the calf pen and a 1000 ft down the hill headed to the pond. Knowone was thirsty anyhow.
