Today while in Valentine, Nebraska we ran into another rancher who said that Turner had bought the McMurtry (sp) ranch in Cherry County today for 364 an acre. I was just wondering if this was fact and if anyone else had heard it?

It was 26,000 acers?

26,332 deeded acres plus 1920 acres of school land lease, which totaled 28,252 acres. This would be just a tad bit over 44 square miles, or an area 8 miles long and 5 and a half miles wide if it was in rectangular form. It is a very nice well-cared for Sandhills ranch.

A guy who worked for us ten years ago also worked at that ranch before he came here. His good friend then was also the grandson of the man who owned the ranch. If I remember correctly it was in a 100 year trust because the old man figured his kids would sell it after he was gone. It must have came true. :? The grandson wanted to run it, but had no chance because of the lease. I think Morrisund(sp) had the lease then.

You mean Moursund, the late judge from TX? He always got ALL the good out of his pastures. Really good fire barrier. Kind of miss having that protection since Turner moved in and did some buying and some swapping. :?
