Our Son's Football Success

I don't know if I should beat my own drum here, but I'll take a page from Jigs' handbook and do it anyway!

My second son (of four) graduated from high school last spring and is a freshman at Black Hills State Universitiy at Spearfish, SD. He tried out for their football team as a walk-on in August.

Even though he knows the game very well and had some post season honors in high school, I didn't know how well he would do at the college level. His coaches really like him and he was awarded a scholarship after the first week of practice. He plays middle linebacker and has had limited playing time in each game so far.

Last week however, at Dickinson, ND he made his first college start and really tore things up. He was credited for 17 tackles in the game, 8 unassisted and 2 for loss. He was named the defensive player of the week.

Yep I agree-- Who won? My son played for the Blue Hawks several years ago-- and he too played middle linebacker and defensive end...

It's not bragging when you can really do it.......His success has some to do with the work ethic and willingness to learn instilled in him...You should be proud,

Hee Hee, BTW, pretty soon teams are going to account for him each and every play....He's young and will learn how to work through that as well,

can't be braggin if you believe in him! braggin up on ones self is tacky, braggin up a kid is expected!!

good for him, let us know if there is any game film that makes it to youtube or anything...I would love to see it!

I'm not going to refer to this as bragging either. I'm just sharing my pride!

No Katrina, they do not play Hastings. All of their games seem to be with North & South Dakota schools. However included with the non-conference schedule was Carroll at Helena, MT and Wisconsin Eau Claire.

Yesterday was their homecoming and they beat SD Tech (Rapid City, SD) 50+ to 0. Tech is where our oldest son is a Senior in Electrical Engineering. He brought a car load of friends to watch his brother play. This has always been a big rivalry. Tech refers to BHSU as just another high school. On the other hand, BH responds: at least we have girls!

Dickinson looked to be the closest away game for us, so we drove 6 hours to attend that game. We were thrilled to see his performance. It was a nice drive, through country I hadn't see before. We hadn't expected to travel already this year, but his early playing time has got us wondering about the next away game at Jamestown, ND and then... ?

Boy, I've got ranch work to do somehow!!

Been there-- done that...Saw lots of Montana and ND many times over for a few years with both the son and daughters-- but remember, you only have one chance for this--The ranch work is always there...

I told my son the only good thing about him tearing his ACL his Senior year in High School is that he didn't get one of the scholarships to the "Biggies" that were recruiting him-- as I couldn't have afforded the traveling they do :roll:
