I am trying to figure out the best way to build some hangers to carry panels on my trailer.

Anyone have any examples to look at?

here's one that works well and you can take em off and throw em behind the seat when not in use,or leave em on...up to you.
best use at least 1/4 " flat.you can run as many as you like down the side.they just hang on the bottom sill(wall top) of the "window" opening.Mind you build em so there is clearance for the panels to the fenders.

oh yea-you'll wanna have the drop(C) enough so that the panel crossmember fits under the lock bolt.if you use a longer bolt it will keep the panels "locked in"as long as there is enough room(B) to drop it in and slide it over.

We put two of these on each side, can carry about 4-5 panels on each side.
The hangers are actually hangers from a loading chute my Dad bought from Scranton Mfg in Iowa. Cut 'em off that, a little welding and bolted 'em on the trailer, pretty simple.

All good ideas. Thank you

I think I will take from each an figure out what to do.

The biggest problem I have is my trailer is 7 ft tall (built for draft horses) with only one open slat on the top. So I like Frank's idead of bolting it on then make them to hang lower.

Plus it's aluminum so I can't really weld any thing pemanent, unless I buy a spool of aluminum wire, which I don't really want to do.

I just sit the panels upright on something next to the trailer to hold them off the ground and wrap a chain around the panels and a slat on the trailer.

A rope would work too.

That's what I do right now Mike. It takes more time to take the panels off and put them back on than it does to load cattle.

I want something I can throw them on, strap down and get going to the next project.

I welded pieces of angle iron on the side's of an older trailer I had above the fenders and just as wide.I could put 8 to 10 panels on each side.My trailer now is 8 1/2 ft wide so we have to haul them seperate or inside. What ever you do weld it or bolt it on good those gravity hooks would bounce off with my driveing.

I patched together hangers tonight that I think will work. I made them so I can hang them and remove easily if I want. One thing I would have changed is to use heavier angle iron on the top where they hang over the wall panel. I'll post again after I paint and hang them on the trailer. Thanks to Frank in SD and Cody for making the light bulb turn on!!!!

Here they are:

I was looking at past pictures and this was a good one of my 1 year old pup at a trial I thought was neat. She's on the right side and not chasing cattle away, that's "the" right side!!!

I would weld a gusset under the brace and double the plate at the top of the hook panels bounceing will crack your weld quite quickly.I'm a welder by trade and 5 minutes beefing those up will save you alot of headache's.I would also put a piece of rubber floor mat on the botton where the panels will be banging on the trailer.

Denny or anyone, what could I do to beef up the top? I thought about bending a piece of strap iron over the top and welding it on?

Cody, that bolt sits pretty high on the wall, so I am not too concerned. Like I said, my trailer was built for a guy who had draft horses and is seven foot tall inside!!! :-)

That would work remember it's easier to do it now when everything is straight and handy once you start useing them they never get fixed until it's to late.

Thanks Denny.

I ended up bending a 1" x 1/8" strap over the top and welded it on. I also put a brace on it.

If they don't work now it will prove what kind of welder I am!!
