A few weeks ago somebody here posted a picture of a special
saddle made for a paralyzed man who was, as I recall, good with a rope.
I have a friend who was riding with another gal, the horse got spooked and took off up a steep incline and the gal sailed off and hit a tree. She is in rehab now, they don't know if she'll be able to walk  but she sure is trying hard and trying to keep a positive attitude. Anyway, the friend who was with her would be interested in seeing the special saddle that was put on Ranchersnet. She thought it might help encourage the patient.
Which of you posted the picture, please? Also, I was wondering how he ever got himself into that saddle.

Thank you, folks. You've got good memories, I'll say.
I sent the picture off to her in a flash- isn't the internet sooo handy!

nr, sorry I didn't see your question sooner. I've been gone for the last few days and am just getting caught up. If your friend is interested, I'll sure find out who made the saddle. Our young relative uses his all the time, but it would be dangerous to use on a horse that either stumbles or bucks because there is no way to get out of the saddle if the horse falls.

Taylor uses his tried and true roping horse that he used before his wreck and, except for the time a mad bull hit his horse, he's never had any trouble.

We'll put this young woman on our prayer list. We know first-hand how traumatic this is for her.

I can get you the name of a saddle maker who has built one of these saddles, if you'd like. Just pm me for the name and number.

nr----prayers for your friend!! Here about 4 years back, one of the best nurses in montana was riding her horse north of bozeman when this gentle little mare bucked and my friend landed on her forehead....she has been paralyzed from the mid chest on down since.....thank the good lord for a supportive husband to help her out with the 4 small kids at home and the love and support of the folks of her hometown (deer lodge...maybe faster horses would know these folks, too)!!!

I do know them. In fact, they live in our old house on the ranch we sold.
It was a real tragedy, but I hear she has a good attitude about things.
The owner made the house handicap accessible for her while she was
in the hospital.

Maybe we are talking about two different people. Tanya, the one I
am speaking of, was running the barrels in the practice pen in the south
Deer Lodge valley when the horse kicked up and threw her. Just
something that happens alot, but this time it turned out really bad.
I do feel sorry for her kids. Tough deal.

Yep...that's her......anyway, she ended up in the bozeman hospital where they have one of the finest "back surgeons" in the country....sadly, there was not much he could do for her!! Last I heard, she and the family were in Phillipsburg (hubby was superintendant or principal of the school), but then I heard that he, too, had taken a job at the prison so that he could be near her!! Amazing how she manages to still work and AS A NURSE, NO LESS!! I know that she has also had alot of ups and downs!! Gotta be devastating to try and keep a good attitude when all you want is to ask "WHY ME???"!!! She has good family....I worked with her sister, Celeste, at the hospital in deer lodge (another excellent nurse) and her brother, Brock, also works in the medical field....sorry, cannot remember exactly what it is he does!!

I have also had the honor of taking care of another man (this one from butte) who was involved in a similar style horse accident!! He stated he was riding his wife's little mare and "she was not used to my weight" (he stood 6'4" and probably weighed over 225#)....she spooked and bucked and he, too, landed on his forehead.....only scar is the one on his noggin from where he landed...however, he ended up a quadriplegic!!! This happened when he was only 52....sadly, he recently passed away at the age of 63!! I really learned alot from that man!! I also know that he would have given simply ANYTHING to be horseback again...just one more time!!

Thank you everyone. It is wait and see now how she does and what she is capable of doing. I'll pass on the info. Life sure has some tough curves.
My friend who was riding with the injured woman is having a difficult time dealing with the memory of the situation. It was she who had to deal alone with the accident victim in the woods, call 911 and wait etc. Like a post-traumatic stress problem. They both probably could use some of our prayers. Thanks again.
