Photos of a 32-point buck shot by a bowhunter during an October, 2009 hunt at Camp Ripley, Minn.

In this Oct. 15, 2009 photo, Scott O'Konek, a Minnesota bowhunter displays a 32-point buck he took during a hunt at Camp Ripley, Minn. The buck might have the largest non-typical or asymmetrical rack taken by archery in Minnesota. The buck scored a preliminary antler score of 228. The current record is 225 set in 1989, according to the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. The deer was an estimated 5 years old and field-dressed at 192 pounds. (AP Photo/Minn. Dept. of Nat. Resources, Beau Liddell)

That's how he does it. :???:

Luck is when Preparation H meets Opportunity.

Just trying to clear some of the fog J-Man-you too are really a piece of work lol. Nothing pees me off more than hunting hard all season for a good buck than somebody piping up with "Man your lucky'. That buddy of mine that shot the 235 has killed 900 inches of horn his last four bucks-nobody works harder at it than him but he gets the 'just lucky' label. The Minnesota guy maybe was lucky to have that buck in bow range but he still had to get his act together and make a shot-not sure I could with that great a deer.

Ya think he was maybe fighting off the shakes just a bit?

I think I might of been shaking like a poodle passing a peach pit-it's strange though what gets to you. Shot some pretty good bucks and been cool as a cucumber but I got the willies one morning when I went to fill my doe tag lol. Thank god there were no witnesses out in the swamp.

And to think that buck was taken 20 miles from home. My brother has hunted the archery hunts in Camp Ripley I dont have patience.

did you every think for a second that me calling him a "lucky SOB" was maybe a figure of speech and not an attempt by me to minimize his hunting skills or dedication. sorry to upset ya little fella  now that i know what pees you off the most, i promise to never use "lucky" in reference to a hunter again.

I was just wondering how the heck I´d manage to hold that bow steady with such a buck in bow range.......nads of steel I imagine.

or luck

I believe it is the preparation and stalk that provides the excitement. If that is all done right shooting an animal (except maybe a grizz) inside of 30 yards has the culmination and excitement of shooting a beef in the corral. After butchering on the farm from when I was a kid and 15 years of guiding moose and caribou hunters all that happens after the shot is fired is a lot of dam hard work.
As you may tell I'm not much of a trophy collector. :D

I gotta admit, I´ve made some damned lucky shots............with my rifle. :?

Well the buck I shot last year was all about Luck I slept late went to my closest stand from home. As luck would have it 2 minute's after I got in my stand lukily I looked to the west and as luck would have it there was a doe but as luck would have it she jumped the fence.Luckily there stood another deer and I could'nt believe my luck but this one had antlers.I aimed and shot and the buck was lucky I missed. He turned to walk away and as luck would have it I missed again.Lucky for me he was'nt moving away very fast and I threw another lucky shot out and hit him seams his luck ran out. So I walked to look for blood and a luck would have it there was none to be found. But as luck would have it I luckily looked to the left and the buck was standing in the brush and I fired my 4th and luckiest shot. He turned and ran towards the highway. Lucky for me he dropped on the edge of the field and I only drug him 10ft to my pickup.

I'd rather be "LUCKY" than good most days.

Hope knowone get's the Feather's ruffle'd

Denny, does Camp Ripley get hunted every year? how much land does it cover?

Yeah they have several hunts a youth hunt was two weekends ago and if memory serves me correctly they have a couple archery hunts. It may just be one weekend of archery hunts.

It must be 10,000 acres or bigger I'm not real sure.

Are you looking to Rifle hunt there's lots of land around me to hunt one I hunt is a Wildlife Management area 7000 acres walk in only plus alot of county ground. I've got several private parcel's with good bucks.

Your invited if you want season opens November 7th you can stay in my camper and I'll be your guide.
