My neice and nephews rode up this afternoon and said they could see and smell smoke so I got up on a hill to see where it was comimg from then went to take a look. Turns out it was about twelve miles from home and in some breaks to the river.
Just beyond these vehicles the land drops off and is to steep for vehicles and it's pretty easy to get trapped when you're fighting fire. The fire fighters are waiting for the fire to come up out of the breaks then fight it there.
The grass is about 12 inches tall and thick. Temperatures have been near and above 100 degrees so everything is really dry. The wind was blowing also. This fire may have been started by a thundrstorm this mornig.
A slurry plane is looking things over and coming around to make his run.
I'll bet if the fellow on the red pickup was smoking a cigarette when that plane went by he had to relight it
When I left it looked like the fire was under control and they had plenty of help.
