I have had several requests to see what my setup is so here it is

I have 3 12x 16 pens on one side, I can split them if I had to but find that I can safely put two cows in each for a while if they are quiet. I have the south as the in door and north as the out door.

North side is the maternity pen with another 10x 12 on the end, I can also put another pair in the end and move my hay. I try not to use it too much. I can use the alley on the ends as pens in a real weather wreck. I have had 13 pairs in here at once, but that is only one year when we had a 3 day blizzard.

This is the heated area, its just to warm calves up in weather more than -15C. I don't use it a lot but when I need it I really appreciate it. I put a pair in here and turn heat up to 80*F that really gets them going. the other 10 mos of the year it is my farm shop as I remove panels, wash and I also hold my bull sale in here. as well as entertain during hunting season.

The building is 40x 80 with 36x 40 heated and the rest just a shell. It keeps the wind out and it never gets to steamy.

I planned for this for years while calving in a 14x 27 old barn without power. Without this facility I would have likely sold my herd and moved on, but it has worked out well and we use it all the time, not just for cows!

Real nice, glad you got it like you want. Makes all the difference in the world when a guy can be happy. Old barn makes you appreciate this one just that much more and figure out what you wanted. Nice job have a happy new year! Brent

That is a pretty nice setup. It is nice when your building can do double or triple duty. Our calving setup is called May/June, but I bought some purebred heifers that should start the end of February. I guess we will undergo a learning curve calving in winter, tagging and weighing at birth. Maybe I should trailer them your way for a month or so.
My plan for next year is to lock the gates on the bull pen extra tight.

I really like the HiQual maternity pen, lots of options on it for different barn configurations and one person can always get a cow into it and out of it safely. I really like having it attached to another pen so I can leave a cow in there another hour to mother up before moving them.
