The weather has been really nice the last few days and it has really helped get rid of the snow but it has brought the mud... 8)

What moisture you must have waiting to soak in!

You cattle must be real gentle, as the new pairs don't seem to be too concerned about you at all. That is a good hereford trait. If I read the cow # correct, is that last cow 14 yrs. old?

We have been blessed with a good deal of moisture this winter and I am sure glad for it as the last couple yrs or so have been short. We have been seeing temps in the 40-50's this week and it is like a spring thaw. The reason the 3020 is in the lot is it was getting 3 plus buckles deep and I hate a deep lot so I started in late in the day yesterday trying to remedy the problem.
My herd is usually very gentle and I won't have it any other way. A bad attitude is the #1 thing that I cull from around here. I understand a good mom but a nasty one just won't do if you know what I mean.. I have 8,5,3 yr old kids that are a big part of the operation and if they can't be with me and help and learn it defeats a large part of what I am working for here. My number sysytem doesn't do a very good job of telling yrs (still looking for the magic system  ). The numbers really just give me an ID to go back to my written records and get the rest of the info on the cows. The cow in the last photo is 9yrs old and still raises a nice calf. I wish I had more like her, fact is I would take 50 just like her she is just a basic good ole cow. We have went to freeze branding the cows and I sure do like that.

It's sure hard to enjoy the blessings of moisture when it's muddy and you're a calving isn't it..lol Course the joys of living in Nebraska can really help that along...wait a few hours...it'll change. Good luck calving! Nice critters.
