Wed. Mike went on the 4 wheeler to see if the missing two cows were stuck in the BLM permit. Drove to the last hill before the river and walked to the gate...sure enough they were there. So he opened the gate and walked them to the river but they wouldn't cross the ice. So, the next day he went on horseback.

Had to break ice and salt the rest to get them across

On the right side of the river heading home. They are pretty thin as the side they were stuck on had been grazed off, probably hadn't been drinking much either. Not to mention it was a rough summer and none of the cows are fat.

We see flocks of Rosy finches in the river canyon, hundreds of them

And brought along a Redpoll, never had one of these before. He's very cute.

Glad to see things are well up on your end of the desert! :D Hope ya get plenty of moisture. Phil's cows are kinda thin too, but after the year we just had, what else can ya do? Nothing a few groceries wont fix right? :D

Nice pictures, looks like a loyal pair that he has waiting for him across the river. So can he use the rifle for coyotes from horse back.

Not much worry of us becoming bike cowboys! :) Happened to be faster that day and he didn't have much time. Notice the bike couldn't get the cows home

EastWind, he shoots off his horses all the time. We use the horses for training the bird dogs so they get used to guns fast. He's shot every gun he has off that horse.

The heifers are definately plump enough.

Oh yes it could have! Mike just may not be as vindictive to his machinery as I might be. 8) :D

That certainly qualifies as ranching country. With those easy keeping Herefords you could sell that fancy hay and buy back cheaper plain hay. Always enjoy tromping around with you on your place from the comfort of my office. (there is no place that a bike and a couple of good dogs couldn't get the job done)

You two are more than welcome to come and follow us on your bikes  Maybe you can do it but I sure wouldn't.

'H, did you find the rest of Phil's cows?

Found 6 head sunday and also found a pretty heifer calf that had come over the mountain and was only 85 miles from where she should be. Called her owner and he is going to go pick her up from Phil's place. Figured she'd be better off there than wandering around the desert. Only 7 more to find and get hauled to Delta. Going out Friday so wish me luck. :D

you know wings can help you see alot more country then on top of a tall horse, when time starts to cost money a plane can save alot of it... :D

Beautiful pictures! Might be the first time I've ever seen a picture on here of frosty whiskers on a girl...haha. :D I'd like to have those heifers!
