Soapweed, I kind of envy you. I grew up in farm country and have recently moved to western Kansas. Still pretty "farmy" though. I long for the wide open spaces and cows on grass year 'round like you've got. It'll probably never happen unless I was able to find the right lease or owner finance situation. Oh well, I've got it pretty ok for now, I suppose!

We do have pretty much wide open spaces. Population density in this immediate area is about one person for every six square miles, or six people per township. Our nearest neighbors are three miles away, and most neighbors are at least six miles from here. I kinda like it that way.

You have pretty horses, are they all broke? Oh my gosh, i love you round pen, did you build it?

All are broke but one coming two-year-old stud, and he is gentle and halter-broke. All the horses are geldings, including the Belgian team--Homer and Jethro.

You have sharp eyes to pick out the round pen. Yes, my oldest son and I built it a few years ago. It is eight-sided, and made from lodgepole pine rails sixteen feet long. Each side is eight rails high, which ends up being eight feet tall. There is only one gate eight feet wide that goes into the round corral. Diameter of the corral is about 39'. It was made to get the most use out of the 16' rails. There is one tall cedar post at each corner, with one supporting upright cedar post between each corner post. In other words, the corral took 64 16' rails and 16 12' upright posts to build, besides a little bit of artistry and ingenuity for the gate.

I guess my eyes must be alot older and alot tireder than Canadian Cowgirls...cuz i can't see a round pen anywhere in any of the pictures LOL

Its the very first picture!

Actually that is just the rounded corner of our houseyard fence. The round corral is in the corral and barn picture, just to the right of the closest red barn. It can't be seen too well from this picture. If I remember, I'll try to take just a round corral picture sometime and post it.

OK whewwwwww, I looked and looked at the picture of the barn and corrals and couldn't see a round pen.....I feel better now LOL

I'd be interested in seein yer round pen too Soapweed. I've wanted to build one out of pine trees for a long time. Maybe if I have a picture to go by I can talk Mr Lilly into firin up the chainsaw and "lets build one" LOL

You always post interesting pictures Soapweed, and have a great eye for a picture.

And I especially notice your immaculate ranch. I always admire a nice looking setup. It doesn't always take a lot of exta work to make things look nice either.

Thanks for the pictures, Soapweed. Everything you show us is always
so........NICE...certainly can tell you take pride in your outfit.
Cows are always fat and sassy and horses look good, your people
are happy...doesn't get any better than that.

I'm glad you take the time to share with us.
Don't stop!!

Oh, and those puppies are so dang cute...........
