For those who ask what it looks like when a mare has wax, here are a couple of pictures. Hope these help. Not all mares have wax before foaling but most do.

Thanks so much for the complement. I had a very willing participant in "Little Winnie." lazy ace threw a lead around her neck for the first one, and for the second, I just walked up beside her and knelt down a little. She really was wanting her ears scratched so it took a little time.

I'll see what I can do. She'll be first of 10 or 12 mares to foal.

I can't remember who was wondering how they'd know when their mare was going to foal...appyfan maybe? I went looking for wax photos and couldn't find any, so made a point to take some when our first mare came along. I hope it helps someone down the road.
