We figured the band would be in the north end of their range where they were the last time we found them. We wanted to see if we could find Ol One Ear and the band he was running with, so we would go up there later. We were a little surprised to find the main band had moved south about ten miles to Government Creek.
When we got our fill of taking pictures, we drove out along the Pony Express Trail past Simpson Spring. We found six head about two miles from Simpson and another fifteen head about ten miles further out, but no One Ear.
Black and white among the sunflowers. Great crop of sunflowers in the desert this year.
Just like my Dad always said,, "It starts out just "horse play" then it gets out of control.
"Did you brush this morning" ??
"Come on, gimme a little kiss." Do you think those two blacks have seen this before ?
A little "hickie" on the neck maybe.
There's a trouble maker in every crowd. Out of one fight and looking for another.
It was a great feeling to be hanging out with the mustangs. Its not a totally relaxed feeling. You have to watch your back. More than once I've had one mustang chase another too close for comfort. I don't quite understand why they let us drift around through the herd, without paying much attention to us. If we get too close, they move off. It a great experience, one I don't get in front of the TV. I'm more that grateful I get to have that unspoken relationship with the mustangs. Something that most people never have, nor want.
Hopefully, these pictures will give those who appreciate mustangs, a small part of the same enjoyment, that I am lucky enough to experience.
