Nice pictures. Looks like you have been busy.

Triangle Bar, she really isn't as bad as she looks. Wouldn't want to make her calf beller, but she won't take you just for the heck of it.

Thank You Soap, we are just getting to the busy part. Waiting up for a couple right now. I will give them another 3/4 of an hour, and we should have 2 more babies on the ground before midnight. Then, as long as nobody else is obvious, our next check will be 6 am. The weather is nice, and they are big girls......

EXACTLY! I am waiting on a calver also, and then I'm heading to bed. This last week has been tough for weather, and I'm pretty worn out. It's smart to get some sleep, so when the next bad weather stretch hits, you are rested and ready to face it. Also, pacing yourself makes a difference when you are both day and night calver

Hope your's goes as well as ours should.

Ours is a two man job, or should I say two person  . My husband usually does the middle of the night checks when necessary. I usually stay up till 11 pm, and check again at 7 am if he does the 3am check. When he doesn't do the 3 am one he goes out at 6 am, He is more of a morning person than I am. Plus I do a lot of the daytime stuff, especially when he is working (part time). The only times we go out at 3 is if we have heifers that are close, or if the weather is cold, or windy (depending on the temps). We are just barely below freezing so they can do it on their own tonight.

I am at a crossroads here as far as the weather, it would be nice to have another really nice calving season, BUT, we are so dry here, that I would happily fight the snow and cold if we could get some moisture.

Likewise, I hope your cows calve out without problems too!

I understand what you mean about appreciating good weather for calving, but also wanting moisture. I just responded to a post I wrote earlier this evening about that exact subject. If you check that post out (Where I Live), that's a picture of me on a snowdrift a year ago... I kinda like dry corrals after being reminded of last year.

That's nice you can share your night-calving duties. I unfortunately am by myself :) I especially hate having to bring in calves from the night lot, in the dark, when the cow is upset! I am extremely cautious since it would be a LONG time until anyone would find me. I guess that's why I've tried hard to select for calving ease, gentle cows, and even then there are no guarantees!

Good luck and Happy Calving!

Beautiful country!! Beautiful cattle, I sure like that red one.....

Wow!! I don't think I have EVER seen that much snow.

Good luck, and be careful. We select hard for temprament too. Even a couple hours would be a long time if you were laying there hurt.

Happy Calving.....

Thanks for the nice compliments! I had to tell you my cow didn't calve as easily as I hoped. She had a leg back, but it was a simple fix, and an easy pull once I got him straightened out. It's 22 degrees with no wind and so I say Good night!

Well, one of ours did, and the other didn't. After waiting 2 hours, we pulled it. Not sure if she would have eventually had it, but she just never seemed to work at it. At 12:30 am, I really didn't feel like waiting up any longer, so we pulled. Why is it the ones with attitude seem to be the ones that have to be worked with the most????

I think I would watch that no.6 calf---bloody nose doesn't look good.
Great pictures though

That's wierd that both of us ended up pulling a calf last night. Kinda cool to think you were up doing the same thing, at the same time in a different country :D

I've got a deal for you, I just had a diluter grey calf born if you'd be interested?! She definately doesn't fit in with the herd! I'll send her and the red heifer up your way next fall  .

Yes, indeed. Who woulda thought it

Well, I would probably take the diluter, but the thing is, my DH doesn't go much for those things. That spotted calf is almost more than he can handle :) . But if it meant that red heifer, maybe I could talk him into it...... :D :D :D

With your hectic schedule, I appreciate ya taking time to take pictures...your calves look healthy and cute...I just love this calving season..as long as the weather cooperates...Thanks
