Poly Rope Fencing

Have any of you horse people had any experience with poly rope electric fencing? And, if you have, would you please share your evaluations of its durability; especially from UV degradation?

I have successfully used poly rope, wire and braid with horses and cattle. I found that poly braid seem to work best with horses, as it twists and flutters in the a breeze and seems to make it more visible to them. I use poly wire for cattle, and it works well. I am certain poly rope would work well for horses too, but I believe, at least up here it is more expensive. The poly braid I use is the flat tape, 1/2 inch wide, I believe made by Zereba. good luck in your choice..

i use poly wire in certain areas for horses and cattle. works well and easy to roll up and move. if everything is set up right, they generally won't touch it more than once. :shock: i had about 300 cows huddled up against a polly wire for 2 days during a blizzard this winter. it would have taken nothing for them to knock it down and help their selves to a big hay stack just on the other side. come to find out i didn't even have the wire hot like i thought i did, they weren't gonna risk it.

Every once in a while we get the odd cow go through a neighbours electric fence and in with his cows. You can sure play hell getting them out, apparently they learn their lesson getting in and even a wide open gate with the power turned off is not a chance they want to take. I've even seen them wean their calf on this piece of ground with only a single poly wire between them.

I've rented a place for 12 years now and they have a single strand of poly wire running around the back side of some buildings along the hayfield. It is the same wire as the first year deer broke it once and I just tied it in a knot works well.
