Yesterday the Timber Lake fire department responded to 16 fires and I know of 1 more during the night. It is getting pretty scary.

BRG...is the fire between Marts and JR's headed your way??? I hope they got it under control. Did you get any rain? It's pouring here in Bismarck right now. Lazy Ace said we had enough last night to actually run off the roof. That hasn't happened in months. Thank you Lord!!!

Lazy Ace was out fighting fire yesterday morning, and was still out at 4:00 this morning. I think they finally have Bucks fire under control, but the locals sure are mad as a "new incident command" kicked them all out from putting out hot spots and with the wind shift, the fire shifted back, jumped two fire lines, and ran all the way to Mesco (? spelling) Our gang and Buck and Lori were fit to be tied.

I hope Timber Lake and Isabel have enough water to make it through the day, as yesterday both ran out.

As well, I hope all of our Ranchers.net neighbors to the west are safe. Tap, Liberty Belle, and other, please know you're in our thoughts and prayers. I think all of Northwestern South Dakota is on fire.

Take care BRG...

Cheers for the rain!!!

We watched the lightening last night to the south and east of us. Not much lightening here. Stars were shining and the lightening was dancing south and east. Haven't heard anything yet this morning about fires locally.

Talked to an elderly rancher this morning, he said this dry thunderstorm season usually lasts until the middle of September. That's almost two months away.

Stay safe, everyone!!!

I believe so, we had our tractor and unit up their all night and it was pretty much out then. As long as the wind stays soft it should be ok. Thanks goodness we had a shot of rain otherwise it would have came right to our front door.

How big did Bucks get up there? Kenny was down all day by Bob Kuhn's fighting there. Wish I was home to help!!!

I just talked to Lazy Ace, and Bucks fire, officially called the Stone Church fire, I think, has flared up on the east side, and with a stout north wind is headed our way. If the incident command would have let Buck, Lori, Blake, other neighbors and our crew work on getting the hot spots behind the fire line out last night, it might not have run all the way east and now be headed south....

Anyway, here's what I kinda know about the fire...started at north end of Bucks, and ran all the way north through Ed B's, jumped the river, and late last night Lazy Ace heard it was about 2 or 3 miles from Barb Campbell and families, place. At some point either the southern edge took off, and went east to Mesco (? spelling,) or else it went east and the northern winds pushed back across the Grand toward Mesco, or maybe both. I have not heard which or occurred.

I believe it and the fire between Yates and Selfridge are being lumped into the same fire. I have no idea why since they are miles apart-maybe because of BIA involvement. Keloland said they were 25,000-26,000 acres on their website. The Bismarck Tribune put the Selfridge-Yates fire at 19,000 acres (15 miles long and 5 or 6 miles wide)

However, I'd say that Stone Church fire is greater than 5000 or 6000 acres just because of the distance it has travelled, and how wide it is. I asked Ace how big and he hasn't heard, but it is on the move and growing!

There is was a big fire last night over around Glad Valley-I think started on Len Hofers, and pushed south really fast. At one point there were expecting it to jump Hwy 20.

I'll keep you posted on what I hear.

For, now, please be safe everyone....

Good luck over there you guys. I could see glows all over the place from east of the Slim Buttes last night. That storm must have started them all the way across.

BRG Bret went up on the four wheeler and checked out the south side and east side. I think from what he said it stopped at our hay ground up there and Bret said Buck had a great disc line along the blade line on the south and east side. It keeps breaking out along the Grand around Phebe Emmons both sides of the river. I still haven't heard how big but probably took alot of the old Arnold land to the bullhead road. I am just guessing on that.

have a good one

lazy ace - what can you tell me about the stone church fire? Sometime in all the excitement in the last couple days I heard someone on the fire radio mention that it had burned close to the ranch where the Corson Co. assessor lives. Since he is our daughter-in-law's brother, I'd sure like to know they are okay. Last thing he needs is the results of another fire to deal with after losing most of his records when the courthouse burned down!
