Today I gathered the cattle and put them in shelter in case the storm hits :-).

Meet the crew for the day. Joe, Tia and Casey (yes, she's still alive) :D.

Tia likes to trail beside me until we get to the action :D. They're trained to trail behind when I tell them to, but they weren't listening well on their first week back to work. She looks pretty happy!

One of Casey's neurotic ticks involves running circles around your horse until you get to the cattle . She probably travels double the amount of mileage just getting started . She knows to trail behind too, but doesn't like to listen unless she's in the mood. We share a very similar personality...and since it's Casey, she gets away with it .

Here we go girls :D.

Hard to believe we're supposed to go from the 60's to blizzard conditions . The moisture is most welcome though :D.

Once the crew and I got them to shelter, Jim fed them well. Hopefully they stay put.

Casey found a prize on the way home. I bet it takes more than an deer leg and all-you-can-eat afterbirth buffet to reward most people's crews .

My friend Carole came up earlier in the week to ride. She does dressage/jumping, and I get a kick out of the difference in sizes between her horse and my little cow pony :D.

We looked through the yearlings.

All lined up!

Luckily for her, I gathered them all friday to give pre-breeding vaccinations. Fun times!

My attempt at copying Soapweed's photo techniques :D.

Thanks for the tour. We did the same thing in nice weather yesterday and boy did it turn. 6 inches of heavy snow on top of water melting everywhere. Not much high ground left. Have only ten early bird (a week or so) calves on the ground. You won't regret being prepared.

Nice looking scenery - what part of the state are you in? Was through Wyoming once quite a while back now. Good to see those fine Scottish hounds working for you - how much poorer the worlds stockmen/women would be without the border collie! Good luck with the storm.

I hope you get some moisture, the mountains here are supposed to get around a foot of snow. Just got back in from checkin' the cows, no snow but there's a regular dirt blizzard blowin' outside.

Nice pictures. You're dogs are certainly doing well on their winter diet! We worked our heifers on thurs but didn't have any porcipine quills.

I live in the southeast corner of the state. Yep, I agree, the world would be a hard place without border collies... I would actually have to work .

Nicky, we girls all have done well over calving . Good thing the dog's afterbirth and my ice cream binges are coming to an end .

Per, it's just starting to snow now.

In that 4th picture there seems to be a big difference in the grass carryover from one side of the pic to the other-did there used to be a fenceline there? The pairs are looking good!!!!

We hayed it. We cut everything we can off of these narrow, rock-filled meadows , especially after paying for hay last year!
