Purebred vs Registered Angus

For discussion do people feel that a purebred AI sired Angus is as much or more in demand for ranchers than the complications of current Registered Angus.
As far as that goes any purebred breed vs its registered counter part
 
We buy bulls from registered Angus breeders, and like to get the
papers, but we never re-register the bulls. Even if we get the bloodlines, that works, so that I know what we have in our cattle and what
to cross them with. But we keep all the replacement heifers so
the bloodlines are important, but not the registration.

Using a line do you lets say Traveler then never go back or do you pay attention to which Traveler bull. Just using that name for the question.
 
I'd pay attention to how long ago I used a certain Traveler and what the cow family was. I'd not use that particular bloodline back on replacement heifers; but I might use it on the cows again, depending on their age.
For years I kept Rito bloodlines in the cows; but haven't for quite awhile now because Rito lines are hard to find. I've been on a 'moderate frame' kick for at least 10 years.

If we were going to keep these cows, I would watch for a Rito 6I6 son
to buy; but we are selling them all this fall.

I'm a 6595 fan. I've used a son of 6595 for 8-9 years. The bull will be 9 this coming year. Along with this bull I ran a Lark's Canyon son. All my young bulls are sons/grandsons of 6595 and Conneally Deep Canyon, a son of Lark's Canyon. I have an In Focus son whose momma is a 6I6 daughter. I have a very even calf crop. No problems with genetics, if you know what I mean. I've got longevity in my cows, great dispositions, udder quality. I think Lark's Canyon was an overlooked bull. His carcass kept him that way, but look where the carcass thing went. :wink: They are all registered and in my name because I use the Angus Source program.
 
I used to use purebred bulls but never got the papers transferred- but like FH wanted the pedigree to keep track of breeding...Did the same with quite a few replacement heifers...But over the years, we decided to start keeping the paperwork up on the heifers- so now are buying only registered bulls...
And like FH I have been buying bulls/heifers to produce "moderate framed" cows and bulls with a proven maternal history in their pedigrees--Rito 707, 6807, Wye, Viking, Emblazon, Ext, Cole Creek, etc., etc. ...
 
Purebred registered is the way we sell them. I tried some very exceptional purebred commercials that I know the pedigree on and they are a tough sell without papers. Normally at a discount price..

I'd like to, tho, because that bull has some good things to offer. BUT...
I'd have to find a herd with great feet, for sure.
And since we are selling the cows, I won't have to do that little chore.

We went through the 'feet problem' deal about 16-17 years ago.
We had Tony Jones from Pierre come here and trim some feet
for us. I don't know if it was moving those cows to this area, or the ground here, or if it had something to do with feeding barley hay;
but we had some bad feet. So I'm critical as heck about feet.
We used a Mr. Angus bull years ago and I've always wondered
if that is where the problem came from. Isn't it something, how
we evolve in our learning? Today I'd not touch a Mr. Angus
bred anything...

We never used Venture Forward when ABS was pimping (as NR would say
:P :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: ) that bull because of two things. He was sired by Traveler 722, who threw scurs AND he had some bad feet in his pedigree. Lots of folks around here used him and were happy--til the bad feet showed up. They were gentle dispositioned cattle, I'll say that for them. Anyhow, I passed on him because of his feet. And I'm not sorry.
