Question about Submitted Photos!?

I just have a quick question which I'm sure has been answered in previous posts, but I'm not gonna take the time to go dig through them....

:?: My Question: Are the photographs summited originally taken by the persons submitting them? :?:


I'm seeing a lot of pictures that I highly doubt are being taken by the people on Ranchers. And if these pictures are not being taken by person who is submitting them then that person is subject to copyright enfringement.....right? Unless of course you have permission from the person who took the photo, but if these photos are being taken from a magazine, book or internet, I highly doubt permission is being granted...or even asked.

I just think these pictures need to be our own ranchers.net peoples candid shots they take, and not something scanned out of a magazine or found on the internet.

I am in no way bad mouthing this contest on here.......I don't submit photos really (so shut the heck up you prolly say), but I find it amusing and comical at times to look through other peoples pictures they submit and voting for the one I think is the neatest. Anyway, most should get my point....

I can honestly say, all the pics I post here (in the contest, and around the other boards) are ones I, myself, have taken. But I can only speak for me...........

I have no idea about the rest of the submitters here, but have seen a couple that made me wonder, too.

You should enter a pic or two in a contest or two......I love seeing other folks pics! :D
 
I would never think of entering a pic that wasn't mine. I can't imagine other people on her being untruthful about the pictures for the contest either. I honestly hadn't thought that any of the ones submitted were taken from somewhere else. Sure hope not!
 
I know all my pictures have been taken by me or greg...but from what I've gathered your not the only one questioning this TXTibbs. I just can't understand why anyone would post a photo thats not theres,what would be the point?? I don't see the winning as being really important,its more just showing pictures of peoples,lives and home areas...RIGHT????
 
If we're having cheating Macon and FH will have to cut out the huge weekly cash awards.. :wink:
 
Doggone it - if you guys are going to start checking on the pics I am going to stop submitting my award winning photos.

I would not want you know that I swiped them from various web sites. After all, my winnings to date have paid for a new tractor AND a new discbine.

As for being the moderator of the Photo Contest, if I can't stand
the heat, I best get out of the fire. So far I've been able to stand it, but not because no one heats up about the photo contest. Too bad, too,
because it was started as a fun thing.

As for the pictures submitted, they are SUPPOSED to belong to the
person submitting them. Therein lies a personal thing called "INTEGRITY." The definition of integrity for those who might not know is this: Doing the right thing when no one else knows and in all
circumstances.

If pictures are submitted that don't belong to the person entering the
contest, there is nothing we can do about it. "Let their conscience be
their guide" has to apply in this situation. If it is more important to win,
then bring on the phony pictures.

The photos have been enjoyable to view and there are sure some
interesting techniques. So all in all, I would say the photo contest
is a WIN-WIN situation. There is never enough rules that they can't
be broken, so we are proceeding as is.

I agree with mrs greg... what would be the point to cheat??? There is no fame in winning a ranchers weekly contest, no $$$.

As for me and my pics, I just browse through the years and grab one, either scanning or they are on my pc. They are all taken by me or k_ranch.

I would hope that all are honest here, we all get lucky and get a great shot here and there I myself have loved pictures since I was in 4-h as a kid and have years of stuff to look through to find a decent one. OH and some places just make for perfect pictures you know, wouldn't matter who tried to capture it, the picture is just naturally there... just my 2 cents..

Thanks to all who enter/entered the photo contest. It is something to
look foreward to. I appreciate catagory suggestions that have been
offered. As a result, we have certainly had some interesting catgories
and great photos.

Ranch Mom - Please keep the "no cash" myth running. It keeps the competition down and makes it easier for me to win!!!

Far as the catagories go, or suggestions for topics if that's what you wanna call it, I think it's great that others are suggesting them. I"m not a moderator, but I know how hard it is to come up with different topics to add to the photo contest.
I love seeing everyones different views on the topics. Each person sees things different. Makes it much more interesting.

As for photos being entered, I've only entered photo's that are mine, as I would hope everyone else would do the same. There are several couples on ranchers and I don't have any problem what so ever with one entering the others photo. LOL long as they don't pull each others hair out over it hehe. But that's their business.

Faster horses and Cert work hard on this contest. A big thank you to you both.
 
OK i will admit I entered 1 picture that I didn't take, but in my defence I didn't know at the time that it had to be a picture I took.

It was for the church catagory and I entered a picture from the family album of the first church in Draper that was dated 1908. I think that's only 59 years before I was born :twisted:
 
Well you can tell by the ones I submitt that no magazine would have them lmao. I would be curious just in which pictures you think that dont belong? them maybe the answer you are looking for can be answered more directly?
