Our welder son modified it and put a "gate guard" on the front. This protects the gates if a fence comes up too fast.

Great Pics :D

There is a brand new King rope from Sheridan in our east pasture same honda and all. Been there about 4 years now.

Not mine but i gave the fellow that lost it a new rope from Tip's in Winamucca.(sp) :-)

Nice pictures and nice cattle!

I had a calf last night with "saran wrap" over its nose too. I luckily was there to catch it. Kinda makes you wonder how many actually come out with their noses covered, and you don't know about it. I know I'm certainly not present for every birth :-) Sure makes you sick if you lose one though.

I did lose one a few days ago. When I got to the barn, she had just delivered it, and the placenta w/ cotyledons was draped over its shoulders. Its eyes were a little cloudy and so I assume he'd been dead a bit before she delivered, but not for long. I didn't notice cotyledons when she was in labor, or I would have gotten it out ASAP. I wonder why placentas detach prematurely sometimes?!?

Great pics! Hey Soapweed can you reach the top bales in the last pick with your hydrabed or do you have to unstack them with the tractor first. Been looking at the hydrabeds for a few yrs now wishing for one and now when I might could get one they don't make one for a megacab dually :(

Beautiful place, Soapweed.

I'm intrigued by your calf catcher contraption. I've never seen one before. Did you build it? Does Peach Blossom just drive right up and surround the calf with the cage? That would save some wear & tear on me, to not get slammed to the ground by mad mamas. The rancher we bought the cattle from told me to pipe them across the head when they get aggressive, but I really don't want to do that.

I use the Hydra-Bed to pull out the bottom bales, then the top bales fall down to where they can be handled with the hydraulic arms. It works pretty good, and I haven't used a tractor to feed with all winter. Another advantage is that the cake can be hauled in the same trip.

Thank you. The Calf Catcher is made in Iowa. We saw one at the Ranch Expo in Bassett, Nebraska, one year and were intrigued with it. Bought this deal last year.

Here is their web-page: http://www.calfid.com/

Great pics Soapweed, I envy your bare ground. That calf catcher looks like it works great in the wide open spaces. I think we'd need a LOT more guarding and A LOT more power to get through the timber in our calving field   I just pull them up on the bike with me, only 1 cow has followed the calf over the bike in 10-12 years   :D My father in law cowboyed in the Nebraska sandhills back in the 50's, I'll have to ask him what town he was near.

Tell me when you find out.
