Roll on January - picked over pretty good on the open parts

January 2nd time to start feeding - they wouldn't come to a shout so I had to go hunt them out of the bush. They are getting a 60% silage ration delivered every second day now and continue to graze for the rest of their feed.

Chinook arch at daybreak - we have actually been above zero today, +3C for 24 hours now. Probably 12 degrees below Per but it's as close to a chinook as we ever get.

Careful not to step under that overhang or you might get it in the neck

Yep we beat you by a bit on the temp today. What are they drilling for, gas or oil? That must hurt coming out of your dogs head like that. Cows are fairing great.

Cows look great GF.

I am just wondering how many beefers in your area feed silage as it is pretty much non existent here now, with the production costs. The only ones that feed are the guys that sell fats and dairies.

Thanks folks :D :D

It's deep gas in this case per, they drilled lots of minimal disturbance shallow wells and a few deep ones as well. This valley has been crazy busy with drilling since fall.

There are a few that silage - some like us get it put up custom by the Hutterites, closer to Rimbey more of the bigger cow/calf guys use silage but most of them background too. Some of them have their own equipment but there are other custom outfits about too. Most of the smaller, traditional ranchers will only ever feed hay, mostly put up with their own machinery. For the better feed quality and lack of weather risk I think silage pencils better every time - if you get it done custom with good operators who can move it fast.

Wow, loving those good 'ol mama cows out getting the job done. It looks like you have the right kind for the environment. Hey, also, I sent you a PM so check the inbox.
