reusing cidrs

What does everyone do to clean, store and reuse their cidrs??

I started using them when we had get form up north of the boarder, I have always reused them with no trouble. For the most part we have had a closed herd for 10 years. When we pull them we have one person the just cleans them just as they come out right by the headshut. They get pulled go right in a 5 gallon pail of warm water and cleaned. Then rinse in a second pail. Then dipped in a pail of warm water with NOLVASAN'S CHLORHEXIDINE DIACETATE. Then we dry them off and keep them out of the sun. If we do not have a nuff help we put in a pail in shade and clean at the end of the day, but that is a little hard as the junk has dried. A lot of the time we pull out clean and put back in the same day. I have also kept used ones from 1 year to next. I also do custom AI and reuse them there also but just in the same herd. Took an AI refresher 2 years ago and they said not reuse, but I still do.

I keep the used ones in a ziplock bag in frig make sure they are dry when you put them in there. I would not put them in the wife's good frig unless your marrage is better than mine. :lol:

We wash ours in a mild detergent.I buy new ones every other year. I put them in the freezer after the first season.I had 80% conception on yearling heifers last year useing them the second time..

I've heard that there's enough drugs on the cidrs to use three times but we just use them twice. Pretty much same as above.

After a 14 days toss them. After seven day maybe save them but with all the danger to women and cleaning its just as well to toss them. We toss them right at chute and burn everyting.

Don't use them... Did one year and we decided it wasn't worth the cost.. And we get a pretty good conception rate.. :wink:

I had an AI rep tell me that today's cidrs aren't as potent as they use to be and he didn't recommend reusing them anymore.

I wish they'd of made them half as strong and half the price so they were a single use item. On some older cows they will fall out on the second use.

Willow, I'd be fir wonderin' if pine sol wood work to spruce up them cedars? It wood 'pear to be poplar and plum easy if ute were to ash me, but it probaby wood nut work 'cause something might get sycamore. :? :roll:
