The conversation under contracts got me to thinking about the best one I've seen hubby do when someone tried to stiff him.
Wayyyyy back we did a little contract hauling. The stockyard sent us to this new guys place (from Hell) . We quoted him a price that was /hr and distance traveled. It took forever as he had a lousy catch and pen system- we won't even talk about trying to load nut cases thru a gate in the middle of a pen.
He didn't like his bill-- and wrote a check for half of what it should have been-- and said take it or leave it.
I was Shocked when hubby said I'll take it and got in the truck to leave.
Then as he was pulling away- he yelled out the window that that check would cover the bill till he got to "the next town" he could find his cattle somewhere around there and took off.
A mile down the road the guy caught up with us and flagged us down-- he tried to pay the rest of what he owed.
I figurred hubby would take it. He refused
The guy offered more-- Ahaaa hubby was out for blood I thought
But wrong again-- hubby said nope-- told the man he made his bed and he'll have to lie in it now- and left.
He stopped at "the next town" and with the guy watching opened the trailer door and let em out--- then tore up the guys check and threw it on the ground. Told the guy to have a nice day and left .
Hubby never got stiffed local again
