I am wondering is there really any money in them or are they like the ostrich a fad that will pass?

Well Denny,

Any that produce buckers around here are in the roughstock end of it and any that dont raise good enough buckers go into the commericial cow herd. They raise just as good or better calves than the average beef cow. Its kinda like the race horse biz.

I think jinglebob can back me up when I say they can raise good calves 8)

Oh I understand they raise good calves but if a bull needs to be 2 or 3 before you know if he'll buck good if not all they are worth is kill price correct.Maybe I'm strange but that would figure out to a loss on any that don't make the cut as buckers. The females will make money it's the dud bulls that I was wondering about.

Yup, some of the best. And you don't have to worry about anything bothering the babies, either.

I'll bet you could tell a lot about their bucking abilitiy as weaned calves. Cut the ones that don't buck and make steers out of them.

Yup your right Jinglebob. You can tell a lot about the calves when they are weaned. You look for athletic ability. If they dont have that then we slap a band on them and they go into the feedlot. I know one fella that keeps his unproven bulls away from females and if they dont prove out as two and three olds he sends them to slaughter and they say the meat is pretty darn good.

I actually leased out all my yearling buckers to a outfit for breeding bulls. There will be some Galloway X calves with a bit of an edge hitting the ground this spring lol. Ohh there's some pretty crazy prices being paid for breeding stock but not by this cowboy. We'll hold a few little jackpots to help with the costs-you gotta have something around to keep life interesting.

NR,

Did you get that cow directly from Barry or did you buy her from Perry Gurski (sp?)Somebody from up in your area bought some cows from him and Kevin Woods I heard.
