That butt reducing machine reminds me of a story my dad told. He was raking with a team of mules when they raked through a nest of bees. The mules lit a shuck for the barn. It was all dad could do to hang on and there is no way to quit one of those rakes. He said the mules went through that barn door at a high gallop and what followed was a hell of a wreck.

My Dad will be so sad to hear there was a sale there and he missed it. We however, will be so glad. :D

I was first introduced to Scenic as a much younger girl. My folks decided that we would take a road trip. My Dad stopped in Scenic and just visited away with all the locals while Mom and I sat in the car and evientually locked the doors. :o Before the tour was over Dad insisted we go in the bar. There was wood shavings on the floor higher then my ankle that had been spit in. ICK. We then had to have something to drink and I would not drink anything not in a container for fear of how clean they'd managed to get it from the last person. Now though I have to say it's a memory that makes me chuckle at.

I always thought that the "butt reducing machine" was one of the smoothest and best rides that you could get in a horse-drawn implement. There is a whole lot of spring in that seat and good set of walking-out horses can get right with the program with one of those rakes. Loads of fun!

It would have been fun to have been there.

I used to get an erie feeling just driving through that town. I don't know why. Maybe because of some of the stories told. Maybe the antlers and horns on the porch roof of the bar. I guess it was tough to make a living in that area during the 1930's.

I believe the Indian, Bad Heart Bull was killed in that bar in the 1970's this had something to do with the start of the ruckus between the FBI and the American Indian Movement at that time.

Our Little League baseball team was passing through Scenic one time and we stopped at the bar for a pop. They had a monkey that would sit on the bar and grab the beer that the owner poured and slide it down the bar. Quite an eye opener for a bunch of 12 year old kids. One of those things I'll never forget.

My grandpa used to preg check Merrill's cows when Halley was alive, I went with him a few times, and a couple times after that. Most that were involved with the ranch are no longer alive. We had thought about going to the sale, but our friend that owns Frontier Commercial Glass was down putting some new windows in one of the tennant houses, so I was trying to help him with that in between rain showers.

I understand that a certain notorious, Latino motorcycle gang is very interested in the town of Scenic real estate.....as if the Rez doesn't have enough drug problems.

Thanks for the pictures, Soapweed!
