I have a 10 foot bored well with a sewer pipe cribbing into a spring. My windmill can keep the well down enough that it just slurps the water but it also sucks sand/ fine gravel up.

Was wondering if a sandpoint driven in would fix my problem and how do you know if your deep enough with the sand point or don't go too deep?

Thanks in advance :-)

Drive your point down into the sand if you keep checking the dept of water in the pipe. Here we have a hard pan once we hit that driveing a point will useally wreck it.I have a point thats 27' deep with 13' of water in the pipe.I would bet you drive it another 5 ft deeper you'll have plenty of water.

I got a Johnson Sand point,10 slot. I think that means 10 slots per inch maybe. It is3 feet long and I added 10 ft of 1 1/4inch pipe. I think I drove it down to far so have to go back and see if i can pull it up a take off one 5 ft length and put on a 2 ft length.

Trial and error  :)

Drop a string down the pipe with a nut on it.That will tell you your depth and the top of your water table. If your point is plugged shoot down it with a 22 rifle that will break up the build up.

Dang i forgot the 22.

I pulled the point out and took off 5ft of pipe and added 2. Put it back down and the mill started pumping. :-) I think i drove it into the clay below the gravel bed.

Working pretty good for what it is. :-)
