Thanks for inviting all of us to the party! :D Tell your Dad happy birthday for me. The photo of your wife shows a picture over her shoulder that sure brings back memories. The dog and the lamb hung in my grandmother's house at the ranch for lots a years. I'd get out there and give hugs and then go trolling around to see the sights. She had that picture and one of a Pony express rider switching horses that i loved to look at! She's been gone awhile but she sure left her mark. I miss her but i sure am glad to have been her grandson. Thank you for the accidental memory jogger and smile it brought! :D Great pictures as always. Hope the calving goes well!

Tell your Dad Happy Birthday from the sticks Soapweed. Thanks for sharing a special time.

Ditto here :D . Looks like we're in for a decent stretch of weather. Sure makes it nice for calving.

How nice to celebrate your dad's birthday with a family gathering.
Guess it means a lot to me as I have hardly any family. If I could
change one thing about my life, that would be it.

Neat picture of your dad and his cronies and I really like the picture
of Peach.

How does Rena stand riding without a cap? The coldest place in the world is on top of a horse on a cold, windy day. She's got her hands covered, just not her head.

Rena had her hood up before the day was over.

Thanks, everyone. I will pass on the birthday greetings to my dad. He's doing pretty good for being 86, and has led his life doing what he liked best--ranching. He has sure taught me a lot--sometimes showing me how to do things, and at times showing me how not to do some things. It's been a great ride. :-)

I agree, real nice portraits of the family, nice post. What do the place mats say?

They were put out by the Sandhills Cattle Association back in the 1970's. Ranchers paid a fee to have their brands put around the edges. The placemats were distributed free to local restaurants at the time.

Yeah,we have the same type thing here, except on napkins,we also have a brand quilt that the local cattlewomen put together, you embroider your brand and they put it in the quilt. They are always quite beautiful and are shown at the local feed stores and fair then auctioned off in October to benefit the local FFA chapter.
